What do you think?

Had an ultrasound, three small fibroids and a small complex cyst on my right ovary. Symptoms include pain with sex, pelvic heaviness, aching, bloatedness, lower back pain at night and most recently, no period for two months. The new doctor I visited for the first time said hysterectomy even before he did a PAP. Now my pap results are back and he says that I have a bacterial infection and need to clear that up before I have a endometrial biopsy (I need to know what that does too). My CA125 test came back normal and I think the nurse said my estrogen level was 217 (which I don't know what that means either) so she didn't think I was in menopause (which I thought I was). My thyroid tested normal also. I wanted to know if I was premenopausal because I know that once menopause hits the fibroids usually disappear. Can they tell whether or not I am premenopausal from one blood test? Why am I having a biopsy? I asked the nurse and she says it tells them other things. What other things? It doesn't appear that will tell them anything about the cyst. I realize I have to do something about the cyst (which I didn't even know I had until the ultrasound). I thought all my symptoms were from the fibroids. I will be 46 in January, had my tubes tied three years ago (after a surprise baby). Can any of you give me your experiences/thoughts/advice? I have an HMO so I was limited and this doctor had a good reputation. I just don't want to make a mistake. I'm not afraid to have it done but only if it needs to be done.

What do you think?

Hi,

You need to talk with your dr about what options and alternatives there are, and get more than one opinion before you say yes to surgery.

It is a good idea to read and research as much as you can as well. If you go to the top of the page and click on Resources there is a lot of good info there for you to look at.

After you are informed and have done your research and have talked to dr you will feel confident with whatever decision you make.
