13 days post hysterectomy and exercise

How much should I be walking? I feel pretty good and have not been on any pain meds for over a week...just worried about overdoing it - anyone know how much I should be walking?

Re: 13 days post op and exercise

Where you feel comfortable. I was probably at a mile somewhere between 2-3 weeks. Other Sisters had more behind them by then, but quite a few have less. Trick is to listen to your body, and not get so far away from your starting place that you have a hard time making it back - either fatigue or pains.

Try 10-15 minutes and see how that works, increase as you see fit.

Re: 13 days post op and exercise

Walk until you just start to feel tired, then head for home. If you rest for a bit and feel refreshed, go out for another walk. If you rest and still feel exhausted, that was too much walking. Try a shorter walk the next time. Keep in mind that frequent short walks are better than one long one.

The amount of walking is so variable from woman to woman that no one can give you times or distances. It's entirely based on how your individual body feels. In my case, at 13 days after surgery I could walk a mile in 15 minutes on flat ground - and did so to get to a local clinic to have my staples removed. But I'd started walking around the hospital ward the day after surgery and took my first walk outside around the block four days after surgery. Your own "mileage" may vary. :-)

I asked this question at my 2 week appointment. There's no specific answer, but I was told I could try a mile as long as there was no incline and it didn't bring me pain. I did do a mile a few days after and felt fine. Just have to listen to your body. Good luck!
