pico salax bowel prep

I have some questions re the PICO SALAX BOWEL PREP. I can't take DUCOLAX because it has beeswax in it and I am allergic. Wasn't told to take anything else. Talked to CS at FERRING who makes PICO SALAX and she said no other laxative was needed, as the PICO will do the job. I intend to eat lightly for a few days, and stay away from red meat, whole grains, nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies, rather going on a soft diet of egg,yogurt, VFusion, a concoction of 'boost', then water, water,water before taking the PREP. My question is: anyone who has had the Pico Salax Prep, if you are completely cleaned out after 1 pkg, do you have to take the second, or is it just as a 'precautionary measure' that you are thoroughly cleaned out? Will the second dose work quicker and last less time if there is nothing there to come out? And I was never told what time to start the prep!!?? I have read various articles, and timing varies. IF my surgery is in the morning, I sure don't want to take at 10 pm and still be 'going' when I get to hospital,would be highly embarrassing. Can anyone give me any guidelines as to when I should start to take and when I should take the second one. I am lost without this information. Pharmacist wasn't much help! PLEASE POST IF YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH THIS. Would greatly appreciate it.

I have dont know about the stuff u were instructed to take for your prep. I had no special diet instructions and was only told to take 1 dose of milk of magnesia following my meal the evening before my operation. My dr said if it works than great and if not its no big deal. When you do your prep must not be a big deal as they have no idea of my procedure time until the day before. Not sure if this answered any of your questions or at least a portion of one? Good luck!

You need to check with your doctor. Most have a very specific time for when they want you to take the prep and have very specific diet instructions.

It is very important that you follow your doctor's orders exactly when it comes to the bowel prep. Your surgery will planned as if you have, and if have not you could endanger your health. Additionally, surgery can be canceled if the prep has not be followed correctly.
