Hurricane Season Hysterectomy

I have my surgery scheduled finally and then realize that it is in what is the normaly busiest month of the Gulf Huricane Season. I am not sure if this is just me grasping at anything to not have surgery or if my concern is legit. I am comfortable with my decision to have this done, but I just have those normal scary feelings that I think most of us have.

I guess I just needed to get that off my chest. I can not really talk to DH about it. He thinks that I am nuts for thinking about it that way. Thanks to you all!

Hurricane Season Hysterectomy

Iamreadynow...
I know how you feel about hurricane season. I'm a native S. Floridian, and I too was worried about it, but had my LSH on June 25th. I figured that peak hurricane season is in September and decided to prioritize. I figured if one was coming, at least I wouldn't have to worry about stocking up on tampons! I spent two nights in the Castle and 2nd night was optional. I was fine when I went home, and didn't need to call MD for anything serious, especially having Laporoscopic. Plus, if you're like me, you'll do some nesting ahead anyway, so you're all stocked up to get by for a week at least. I wish you the best!

Hurricane Season Hysterectomy

Linda I am having LSH also. I will be home the same day if all goes as expected. My biggest concern is being able to drive. I had the Lap Hysteroscopy in March and was told I could drive as soon as I felt able to. I did not feel able to for 4 weeks. But my doc said that my Hyster should be easier than the March surgery. He had to do alot of manuvering trying to tie my tubes. He never did find my tubes though.

I just pray that this recovery is easier than that one. Thanks for the reply!

Hurricane Season Hysterectomy

It took about 2 wks for me to start driving. I was taking Vicodin 2 times a day (in am and @ night) and I wanted to be done w/ the pain meds (narcotics) completely before I got behind the wheel. You feel like you could drive, but the reaction time is slower than normal. I didn't really have very much inside pain from the LSH, just incisional on the Lt. lower incision and I was slightly swollen, lower abdomen, noiticed more in evening and that's when I felt uncomfortable, so I took pain meds even if discomfort was mild, it was there, and I wasn't going to suffer. It's amazing how quick you come around after this. For the first couple of weeks, I thought, "I'll never be myself again", then exactly to the day 14, I turned the corner, and felt 80% better. I'm on wk. 4 tomorrow, and I could actually go back to work, but I'm going to give it one more week, to be w/DS. My job is very physical and I feel like I need to rest just a bit longer.
