hair loss

Anyone else experienced anything similar? I'm 2 weeks post-op. I had at total hyst and my right ovary removed. Every time I brush my hair, or shower, I lose hand-fulls of hair! I experienced similar hair loss after I had my kids, so I assume that it's because my hormones are a little out of whack and it should stop soon, but it still worries me a bit...

Re: hair loss

I'm at 4 weeks today and still have hair loss. I sure don't have too much more to spare!! I have heard it's from the anesthesia and also that it could be the thyroid slightly off from the surgery. Either way it should get better - I'm hoping so!!

Re: hair loss

I am over 5 months post op from a TAH and I experienced hair loss as well. The first two weeks handfuls of hair came out and when I asked my doctor she said it could be either stress or the anesthesia.
The other thing you can check is your Thyroid levels....hair loss is one of the symptoms. I was told by my doctor that a lot of women develop thyroid problems after childbirth and hysters.

Re: hair loss

I noticed quite a bit of hair loss the first few weeks, but as my body healed, my hair loss seemed to slow to pre-surgery amounts. Not sure but it does seem logical that the shock of a major surgery and all that that entails might cause some hair shedding.

Re: hair loss

Thanks so much, I will get my thyroid checked for sure, if this continues. Two of my sisters have problems with their thyroid, so it runs in the family. I'll add that to my post-op check-up list.

Re: hair loss

I'm almost 1.5 weeks post TAH and having excessive hair loss. I am assuming it's hormones as same thing happened after my first child, my hair thinned dramatically, but eventually came back.

I know my problem is not Thyroid, since it was removed over 10 years ago.

Re: hair loss

I am 48 and my hair has been falling out for the last 5 years. I had my uterus removed 3 months ago and I think my hair is the same, I still lose a lot when I shower or brush it.

Re: hair loss

My LSH was done 4 weeks ago. My beautician noticed 2 weeks ago that my hair line is receding. She thinks it's thyroid but I think it's from the my surgery. I had my thyroid levels checked 2 months ago and they were fine. If it gets worse I'll check with the Doc.
