Hello just a simple question, i have a fifteen year old and he is grounded for a d+ grade and doesn't understand why? I have done my best to explain that it's not acceptable. He is continuing to argue with me and i can not tale it, i have pains in the abdomin and in the ovaries vagina area when i get upset and i get very shakey, anyone else experience that???

Re: Nerves and teenagers

My guess is when you get upset and stressed, your abdomen is tensing up and causing you to hurt.
I agree. He understands why he is grounded. Some advice from a teacher and mother who has "been there, done that".
First, decide that you won't let him upset you--that you are justified in you decision. Then, calmly and with a matter-of-fact tone, tell him that you understand that he is upset about being grounded, and that you will help him come up with ideas on how he can bring his grade up. Then tell him you will discuss the grounding when you see a change in his grade, and that talking back and arguing with you about it could cause a longer grounding period. Don't back down. Don't get into power struggles with him. Don't let him see you upset. Good Luck.

Aren't teenagers wonderful?

Do the broken record thing.... repeat and state your expectations in a calm voice ....and don't get drawn into an argument. Sooner or later, he will get the message... the first time, it probably will be later.
