Anyone have epidural & general?

Today I go for my pre-op tests and I was wondering if anyone out there had an epidural for pain management and general because they didn't want to be awake for surgery.

I had epidurals with both my deliveries and didn't have any complications from them. I am so worried about the post-op pain that I won't be able to handle it.

I don't want to be awake for any surgery. There's lots of cutting and pulling and burning, retch. I want to go to sleep and wake up in recovery. There's really no way to avoid pain completely after surgery. You're going to have some. But they will constantly ask you your pain level on a scale of 1-10. They will keep adjusting until they get you comfortable. The first 24 hours you'll be pretty much drugged up and if you're lucky you'll sleep through most of it.

I don't want them sticking a needle in my back so an epidural is out for me. I had a spinal when I was 15 that was horrifying and I'm not doing anything like it again.

Anyone have epidural & general?

I had both. I wasn't big on the needle in the back either... I hate needles, but I've had two surgeries for ectopic pgs and know what I felt like after and I hate morphine even more. So I agreed to the epidural and it was great pain control. And once I completely woke up after the surgery I was lucid. My DH noticed the big difference. I was talking, laughing and yes, sleeping just because.
