Re: Fighting two demons and need help please!

It took me several months to get off Cymbalta because of the horrible withdrawal symptoms. The doctor eventually had me taper off the Cymbalta while adding Prozac and then taper off the Prozac. I know the meds helped me get through a dark time but it was a battle to get off them as well. I am sorry you had to deal with that on top of surgery. I too had a withdrawal issue post op, but I got a horrible migraine because I didn't have any caffeine for several days. Luckily my mom figured it out and saved the day.

Thanks, it was getting rough for me so I decided for now to just go back on and deal with this after I'm recovered from the surgery because I don't want anything impedeing a great recovery

Thanks foe sharing your story hun..I'm glad you were successful in your battle!

I went cold turkey off Lexapro and the side effects were awful. I'd definitely taper! It was a few months before I was "myself". With everything you're already dealing with, the last thing you need is any addtional symptoms! Get well! {{hugs}}

I'm right there with you sister! I couldn't deal with it and went back on to do it the right way at some point after recovery!

Thanks for the encouragement...

Re: Fighting two demons and need help please!

I see that you are back on the Lexapro but just wanted to add my 2 cents on the subject. I was also on 20 mgs and with my drs advice (my GP) started tapering off in January 3 weeks prior to surgery. I was keeping my ovaries so there was no concern that I would be dealing with hormonal issues as well. I cut the dosage by half. Started 10 mgs in January, went to 5 in May ( after I was pretty much all recovered) and then went to 2.5 in June. Once I hit that dosage I started having withdrawal symptoms of headaches, brain zaps, nightmares and just feeling lousy. I figured if I was getting symptoms on it I might as well go off completely and just get it all over with. I am now off completely for 4 weeks and feeling really well. Withdrawal symptoms were the worst in the first 2 weeks. So whether you go cold turkey or taper, you can still have withdrawal issues. I think it depends on the person. And, yes, it is sometimes easier to deal with one thing at a time. Best of luck to you with your recovery
