3 months post op and having pain from adhesions and constipation

Well, I am almost three months post op. I had a little bit of a stomach virus last week and had some bad BM's, meaning I went alot. Well, in all of this I started to bleed vaginally....not much. I also have had some bleeding after sex. I have some pain also, mostly on the right side. I had a vaginal hysterectomy.

Since I was bleeding I decided to phone my gyn and he had me come in. He did a pelvic and saw granulation tissue. He said that this was expected as there is no air or light to help it heal faster and that it would pass. I told him about the pain and he sent me for a sonogram, which he does in his office. That was so painful....the sonographer kept pushing the rod on my right side, it almos sent me through the roof. He said that my ovary wasn't moving the way it should. When he looked more he said that there were adhesions on my pelvic wall...not that it can be seen perfectly, but he suspected that this was what it was. He also said I was full of stool, which was pressing on the wall and aggravating the adhesions. I asked what could be done about the adhesions and the doc said that I should be taking a stool softner and fiber supplement to prevent the constipation which would cause pain to my adhesions. He said that the endo was probably still there and that basically there is not much to do at this point. I don't want another surgery as this would cause more adhesions and scar tissue, I guess I will learn to live with it. It just seems that if I have some constipation it is much worse as far as pain since the hysterectomy. When I have to have a BM I feel more cramping then I did before the hysterectomy.

Just wondering if anyone has had this.

I'm so sorry your having this problem. I know that I used Miralax for constipation after my surgery and it was like a miracle drug. It just caused completely comfortable daily elimination with nor gas, cramping etc. I only mention this becasue someone on this site mentioned that the properties of it were not habit forming due to the make up. I'm not sure if that is true but you may want to look into it. You just mix a capful into 4oz of juice and it is completly tastless.

Good Luck - sorry your suffering this issue!

Sorry to hear that your operation has not left you pain free. The problem with having an operation for adhesions is that it can cause more adhesions. 4 years ago my doctor performed lapraoscopic surgery for suspected adhesions and endometriosis (and found both). The adhesions he found were almost certainly from 2 previous surgeries for ectopic pregnancies one of which was performed through abdominal inscision and the other by lap surgery. One adhesion he found was quite extensive and was attached to the bowel; it had created its own blood supply and had to be cut and clamped. I had also experienced quite a lot of pain when I got constipated and a lot of pulling and general discomfort. The operation was a sucess and I was pleased to hear that I had developed no further adhesions or endometriosis when I had my hysterectomy 6 weeks ago. Perhaps you will be able to monitor these pains and adhesions for a while and if they get unbearable consider having another operation some time in the future.
Good luck and I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

thanks

Thanks for the input. I am just trying to clean myself out at this point. I took two laxatives and slowly working. I am now feeling pain in my lower left side...so it must be moving along. When I get cleaned out I am going to take the miralax or fiber, haven't decided which one. It is amazing that the "poopy cramps" I had previous were not as intense as what I am feeling now. As soon as I go to the bathroom I am fine. I know that I am healing and my gyn told me to be patient. He reminded me that this was major surgery and it takes time to get back to feeling yourself.

Thanks again.
