Question About Lifting

I had a LSO done 12/18/02 so I am still recovering from that. I am having a TAH/RSO 2/18.

My question is this....why is it that we can't lift anything over 10 pounds for six weeks? I ask because I have a 33 pound 2 year old and I have been lifting him lately which I know is a but it is just habit. Not to mention I do a lot of bending, picking up of toys and I push the grocery cart and lift bags out. What does that do to my healing because if I only lift him or anything else heavy a few times a day it does not hurt so am I hurting myself inside if I don't feel pain?

Question About Lifting

Hi Jennifer , please be careful. The bann on lifting is because it can put a strain on those abdominal muscles that are trying to heal. If you lift too much it can cause problems , sometimes that don't show up until later. Please follow your dr's orders after your tah and don't lift anything heavy - you can cause serious problems for yourself. You only get one chance to heal properly., don't risk it.

Question About Lifting

By doing the lifting, you are increasing the chances that you can do something to hurt yourself. You have not fully healed yet. Doing too much after surgery is also one of the things they think causes adhesions. I've had them before after having had c-sections. They are no fun at all!

Please be careful. You do only have one chance to heal right the first time.

Pam

Ouch!

Well, I never thought of that :! My doctor said after my LSO that I was full of adhesions but I didn't think it was from my other surgeries. I just thought it was from the endo so I didn't give it a second thought.

I have a problem with just sitting there not doing anything and I have always resumed lifting after every surgery I've had before I was supposed to.

Oh geee, can they fix the adhesions while they do the TAH? If so then I will PROMISE not to mess up this time and I will not lift a thing, scouts honor! Thanks for the quick responce to my post I really appreciate it! You are all such 's!

Question About Lifting

As I said before that's just one of the things they think causes them. There are several theories. Another one was the powder on the gloves. Now, they use powderless ones.

Usually they can remove adhesions at the same time of doing another surgery. You can ask your doctor before you go in. Sometimes, they'll just remove them anyway if they see them. My ob-gyn did with my 2nd C-sect & told me about it afterwards.
