I had my hysterctomy in July and it's great to know tht after 6 months there are others still as tired as me. Had very extensive surgery, and my doctor was great. He warned me it would be many months before I felt 100% -- told to expect exhaustion and being uncomfortable 6 months to a year. Boy was he right on target! Yes, I took it easy this Christmas, cut back on decorating, baking and guess what, no one else seemed to notice but me?

Anyone still having numbness and slight pain in the stomach area?

Hello Ladyone - I was about a week after you for my big H... I have numbness in an area around my scar - about 10 inches across and 10 inches high - at least numb is better than painful... it takes a long time for the nerves to regenerate - about 1 mm a month I believe...

Stomach - maybe a hernia? Or Gerd - depends on what you pain is like...

Hugs!

AngieSW-Let us know what the doc says about your "twitches and pangs".

I was better Sun-Tues when I felt most itchy on the interior side of the incision and where my ovaries used to be. Is this a stage in healing? Then, I overdid it last night ironing/sewing on Girl Scout badges and have swelly/belly/pangs again.

I'm not a sniveling weakling!

It's been seven months today for me (TAH BSO for uterine cancer), and I'm still not back to normal...still so tired sometimes. I'm 56 and work a lot of hours, but I thought I'd be back to normal by now. And I still have pain in my lower belly which apparently is not unusual. I am so glad to hear I am not alone, that I'm not just a cry-baby and that I'm not crazy. This site is wonderful--I wish I had found it sooner. Best wishes to you all for a healthy 2006.

Hi,
It was so nice to read all of your messages with our similar time frame!
Have been doing well, but yes, still get rather exhausted after teaching all day (but have lupus, so maybe it is that!). Still have much numbness in area (tah/bso). Have had several UTI since surgery, which is unusual for me..am on climara patch for now...hope that all have a happy and health-FULL 2006!! Hugs!

I feel like I've never quite recovered since my LAVH/BSO in June. My energy level is horrible... I'd sleep all day, every day if I could which is horrible since I'm working full time and have two young children! The worst part of all is that the surgery did nothing to help the pain which is the whole reason for having it in the first place. I had confirmed stage 2 endo during a previous lap and had most of it lasered off but the pain kept getting worse so I paid A LOT of money to see one of the top endo specialists (Dr Redwine in Bend, OR). He suspected Adeno.. I agreed.. so everything came out. During the surgery he found that the endo had penetrated my sigmoid colon so I also ended up with a small bowel resection. He said other than that, I had a small amount of endo left on my bladder which he removed but nothing left from my prior laser lap. The lab report came back negative for Adeno but I have heard that a false negative is common since they don't slice through every square inch of the uterus so that didn't worry me.
But, like I said, the pain is still horrible and I have been missing 2 days of work each week. I recently ran out of FMLA time so right now my employer is being nice and just kind of working with me but there will come a time that I won't be able to stay. They have offered part time but I never know which days will be my "bad days" so I can't see that working out either. I have had several more tests with a gastroenterologist but everything is negative so she thinks it may be scar tissue left over from surgery or maybe even some strange form of IBS (even though my BM's are normal). I have been with a pain management clinic for over a year and am going to a new one later this month so hopefully they will be able to help me at least work part time. All in all, things have been extremely hard on myself and on my poor husband who has to pick up the slack as far as taking care of the kids!

Well... sorry for the sob story but I thought I'd add in my update. It's nice to see my old surgery buddies!! )

Hi all

I'm 7 months out from a radical hyst/bso for cervical cancer. I am not overly tired, but I find I do need a lot of sleep - 8-9 hrs a night and I am having trouble getting out of bed in the mornings. The rest of the day my energy levels are normal.

Overall I feel good and back to my old self, except -

The only issue I am having is a short sharp pain on BM (which seems to be slowly improving), and I think I may have a hemorrhoid because I bleed very slightly after every BM.

I am also having a slight vaginal discharge some days which reminds me of the normal secretions I used to have before my surgery. I didn't think that was possible after a hyst. Do the vaginal walls still secrete?

Sorry for the gross details, but I'd like to hear if this is normal. I'm going to ask my dr of course...

shegeek----yes, it is normal. Your vagina produces its own secretions, so since it's still there, the secretions will still be there as well (although some women after having a BSO will have reduced secretions, depending on whether or not they take replacement hormones).
