Numbness after surgery?

I am 10 days post-op. Has anyone had problems with numbness and extended swelling directly above the incision? Please reply.

Numbness after surgery?

Hello egk,
I had my surgery on Nov. 10th. I have a bikini cut about 6 inches long. I have numbness and puffiness above and below my incision. The incision is hard but is not very sore. I know it's aggravating but my doctor said it is normal. (seems like everything is normal to them) He said it could take a month or two for it to go away. Hope this helps to know you are not alone. Wishing you the best. Take care and get a lot of rest.
Love,
SNSHINE

Numbness after surgery?

I am numb also from my belly button down to my incision. I don't go back to the doctor for another week or so, but it appears from what others are saying on here that it is normal. Just make sure to check with your doctor.

Numbness after surgery?

Very normal!!
You have to remember that they cut the nerves and they also cut into the lymphatic system. The numbness will very likely go away but it can take up to a year. It took almost a year after both of my c-sections to come back. That does not mean it will take yours that long. As for the swelling, also normal. Everyones is different. When the lymphatic system gets interfered with it will drain and subsequently cause puffyness. This too, will subside with time. I am the queen of abdominal surgery so I can tell you, I have seen and had it all. 2 c-sections, 2 laparotomies (sp)and a tummy tuck. My plastic surgeon (tummy tuck guy) gave me a surgical binder to wear after the Tummy tuck and that thing saved me all the swelling woes I had suffered in previous surgeries. It was wonderful. I called it my woogie, and I had a tough time getting rid of it. I bought a new one for this surgery and I am so glad I did. Very little swelling and it just feels good.
So, I hope this helps put your worries to rest. Great luck and think healthy healing thoughts! And remember, if still in doubt consult with your Dr!

Numbness after surgery?

Yes, I wondered about the numbness too at first. Now that it's starting to wear off (almost 3 weeks), my skin in that area is sore to the touch, similar to what a sunburn would feel like. I'm assuming that will disappear in time as well.

Numbness after surgery?

I gotta say... I have been THANKFUL for my numbness!! I was afraid it would hurt like a paper cut!! lol
Glad it is normal also.
I have found that my Swelly Belly Band has been helping with that swelling...(duh right? lol of course it would)
I was getting upset the other night because my tummy is 'crooked' and I thought, "He could not even cut in a straight line?!" but I realized it is my swelling that has me like that right now. LOL

Numbness after surgery?

I also have been numb. I will say it's not as bad as when I had my C-section. Actually, my incision is much cleaner and smaller too. I'm better all around.

Numbness after surgery?

Hi Ladies,
I will be two years post-hysterectomy in January. I had the typical swelly belly, which I think lasted for seven or eight weeks. I still, however, have numbness and loss of sensation, which extends from my navel to several inches down my anterior (front) thighs.
The gyne who did my hysterectomy told me that the numbness should resolve at approximately six weeks post-op.
I am in the process of trying to find a specialist that I feel comfortable with, and one that will take on my case. I have received little support from my current family doctor, as he does not see this is as a problem. He says this is NOT a medical problem. Nonetheless, he is willing to support me in my quest for answers, and he will refer me to a specialist at my request.
Best wishes.

Numbness after surgery?

Well, I was going to say I too had alot of numb areas. Still do! But mine are more in my thighs and legs. Down to the toes. Seems to be getting less numb over the last few days though.

I wasn't sure if it was due to major nerve damage or not. I have alot of back issues that include pinched nerves so not sure where all the numby feelings are coming from.

Hope it all gets better quickly for everyone.
