feeling ugh

I just had to come to this site because I knew someone would understand. I feel like a lump of chewed up bubble gum. No energy, no flavor, no purpose-- other than to be stuck under someones seat! Am 6 mos post-op. Will this lack of motivation and lack of energy ever pass? I talked to my Pharmacist this morning because I take 4 pills for high blood pressure, levoxyl for hypo thyroid and I know they contribute to the fatigue too, but I don't recall feeling this "out of it" in thirty years (severe post partum). I guess there is probably a similar hormonal component to these feelings (or lack thereof). Any thoughts or observations?
Thank you for reading this far, and I hope all is going well for you.

Hi There!

I'm sorry to hear you're feeling so yucky! I see from your profile that you are a few years older than I was when I had my surgery, and I have a question: Prior to your surgery, had you already gone through menopause, or did you start menopause afterwards?

Hi Bizet Woman,
Thanks for responding. I'm 57 and still was getting my periods before the hysterectomy. A D&C 10/04 was done to stop the bleeding, but it started up again in 12/04 and continued almost non stop til the hysterectomy in March. Now that I think about it, my serious problems started last August. So I guess this is my "gynoversary"
Hopefully things will get better sooner rather than later. Thank you again for responding-it is nice to know someone is out there who even cares enough to do that.

I am so sorry you are not feeling better...are you taking any kind of vitamins, etc.? I am right behind you, and I feel pretty good. Other than the and a sore incision area, I really have no complaints. I am a little over 5 mo. post op, no hormones recommended, I take 2 pills for blood pressure, 1 for cholesterol, multi vitamin, calcium w/vitamin D, and Healthy Woman (OTC soy supplement for hot flashes & night sweats), go to Curves at least 3x a wk. I am 50, so not that much younger than you. Are you on hormones? Wish I knew what to recommend for you...I feel better right now than I have in many years. I don't know that much about the hormone thing, and don't really know about the meds you are currently taking. I know that the exercise at Curves has really helped me alot.

I sure hope you start feeling better very soon!

Hi Again!

Many of the feelings you describe could be attributed to surgical menopause, since I see from your profile that you had your ovaries removed.

Have you talked to your doctor about the symptoms you told us about here? If so, is HRT an option for you? Menopause isn't just about hot flashes. Mood disorders are common with oopherectomy...trust me on this!

Whether you are or are not a candidate for taking HRT, help is available! You deserve to me the best "you" that you can be! Lots of us care about you...so stick around and let us do what we can to help.

Hypo-thyroidism all by itself can make you feel that way. It also interacts with other hormones. It's possible your thyroid medicine needs to be adjusted since your hormonal levels have changed post-surgically. My friend felt like that for a year and got better once her medicine was adjusted. Best of luck to you, I hope the world looks brighter to you very, very soon!

Auntadel,

Have you considered that you may be suffering from depression? Your description sounds kinda the way I felt prior to going on Paxil. You should definately see your doctor, maybe have blood work done to rule out low iron and need for change in thyroid meds. The "no motivation" is what really caught my eye. I know people with depression often are not motivated to do things they once enjoyed. I hope you feel yourself again soon.
