Finally posting - 8 days post-op

Hi everyone. I'm finally getting to post here. I've been okay, just no energy or inspiration until now.

I was scheduled to have an LAVH on Thursday the 13th Nov. but they were not able to do that. My doctor told me that after examination once I was asleep they found that my uterus was irregular sized because of the very large fibroids and would not have been able to remove them vaginally.

So they did the abdominal incision and it only took an hour. She said it went perfectly. The only problem I had was after waking up I kept feeling like I couldn'g catch my breath every time I'd start to fall back asleep. They kept me in recovery an extra two hours until my breathing was fine. I had no nausea at all.

I stayed in the hospital until late last Saturday and they offered me to stay until Sunday if I'd feel more comfortable with that. I wanted to be home!

My husband has been off work and has been wonderful. I over-did it the second day home with too much company and trying to walk around too much. I learned quickly to take it easier.

I've felt much better than I thought I would. The incision has been really sore but still nothing like I had expected.
I've just been so low on energy and haven't had any interest in doing the things I usually do. That's why I haven't been on here.

I do have depression and anxiety but haven't had any symptoms of it since the surgery (which surprised me) except the loss of interest. I'm blaming that on just being tired and hormones.

I'm going now to read more about hormones. This week, actually today would've been the start of my period this month so I'm wondering what's going on with them. My body is still freakin' out I guess.

I promise I won't be away so long now.
I'm keeping all of you in my thoughts.

Hugs,
Carol

Thanks so much Diana. Yes, my DH is off to be with me until Dec. 1. I hate having to ask for him to do such simple little things for me. But as I said I learned not to over-do on that second day home.
An extra afternoon nap does wonders too.

My doctor left both my ovaries. She said they were fine and no reason to remove them. I'm 44 so she said I should be fine with the hormone thing for at least 6 to 8 more years.

I'm glad to hear you say the loss of interest will get better in time. It's really scary.

Are you feeling any difference since our second op? Without the ovary now?
Also what kind of things are you able to do now?

Take care, rest and don't over-do it.

Well I am able to a little more around the house, I cleaned the living room today, gave it a good dusting, and packed my nicknacks away so I am ready to put up my Christmas decorations next weekend, I did a little to much but I feel pretty good. Me and DH resumed sex, and I must say except for being sore abdominally, it is very enjoyable. I am having some issues w/ my right ovary, it has been causing pain, my Dr is doing tests to find out why, lab work shows it is working, I have not had menopause symptons so he really wants to leave it ( I was begging him to get rid of it) I have adhesive disease and he really thinks that is the problem, just found out that once a year I will need lap surgery to remove the adhesions so they don't disrupt my other organs, I am having an ultra sound Friday to make sure ovary looks ok. Before my second op I was so sick for a month, felt like I had a really bad flu, fevers chills, since the infection was removed, I feel alot better. My hyst was an emergency, so it is taking me awhile to except I will never carry another baby, but I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel Oh and it did take about 2 weeks for my ovary to wake up, so if you are having any menopause symptoms, you are very early in you recovery and things will eventually balance out, please keep me posted on how you are doing and if you have any questions are concerns I am always here feel free to email me too. As we are systers.

Ok, I read your post quickly Diana, and I thought you had resumed sex at 8 days post op- the title of the original post. I called my DH and said- "OMG- how did this woman do it-I am sore just reading this!!". Then I read carefully...and realized you had it Sept 22. LOL!!!

I am 5 weeks and still sore after standing and driving, and have the mildest interest only. It is returning, but I am too sore to think about anything going in down there!!

OH How funny, No I waited 8 weeks from hyst, and 4 weeks from second op, I thought for awhile I would never want to do it again, lol, but eventually that changed, and I don't know if it's the same for all women, but I have heard from others, and my own personal experience, that it is'nt so painful vaginally if you had a TAH.

HI Carol,

I had my LAVH on Nov.5. I'm 2 1/2 weeks out now and I'm actually noticing more discomfort now than the first week or so. Apparently this is normal. Just everything healing. So when you reach this milestone, don't be scared or surprised.

My ovaries were left, but went into a bit of shock right after the surgery. I had hot flashes the first two days post-op, but nothing since.

I actually have more of a sex drive now!!! I can't believe it. I've never had much of a sex drive, but now I feel totally different. My hubby is ecstatic and hoping the feelings don't go away! lol. Now we both just have to wait!

I also don't have depression or anxiety like I did before either. Isn't it a freeing feeling! Wow. I can't wait for my future!

Take care everyone,
Willow

Thank you Diana. Good luck with your other ovary. I'm wondering what's going to happen when mine kicks in again. I always had a cyst appear on my right one and be sore for a few days every other month before I started taking the pill. I wonder if it will still happen now that I've stopped the Yaz.
Okay, I'll be sure to keep in touch.

Wow Jen, that would've been fast, huh? Is your soreness still in your abdomin where the scar is?

Thats great, Willow. I feel the same; hoping the future will be better and mostly pain-free.

My DH and I had been having a much better romantic life over the past year before my surgery and I was really worried about what sex would be like after. I do have an interest now but not as much as before but it's only been a week so . . .

The thing I wanted to mention to you is that I've just felt like sleeping all day the last three days. I started thinking and yesterday would've been the start of my period. On Friday my breasts became sooooo very sore, more than ever before and there's some fullness too.
I'm guessing it's hormones. Would my cycle be continuing as usual this early after the surgery?

Well, I'm really tired and turning in for tonight. Hope to see you all tomorrow.
Thanks for all the info!

Hugs
Carol
