Hormones anyone?

Can anyone please shed some light on the whole Hormone issue for me PLEASE??
I am to have TAH with Ovaries out as well in August. I am only 29 years old and do worry about the after effect on my body when you take out my Ovaries. I know I will be on HRT, but I am concerned over what all I hear. My Doc says I only need Estrogen. But I read other reports that say that I need testosrtone(sp?) for sex drive and mental well being. So my ? is...do I need HRT or NHRT?
Thanks Kris

Hormones anyone?

Hi, Kris!

I'm now 7 weeks post-op, had a TVH/BSO, and have been on HRT since day 2 after the hyster. I'm on Premarin (estrogen only), and for me, at least, it's increased my libido tons! I realize that's not the normal response, because my MD said that a combination of estrogen and testosterone is what increases libido.

After a hyster with a BSO, many times it takes a while to adjust the HRT. I did have to have my estrogen increased because at 4 weeks post-op I was not sleeping, and insomnia can be caused by low estrogen. I was already becoming obsessed with sex at 4 weeks post-op, although it was a at that point in time. Well, the MD increased my dosage of estrogen to stop the insomnia, which it did, but woo, hoo, did my thought life and dream life ever change the subject . Poor DH is still running scared!

Now I'm released for sex, and I can honestly say that if I were on a combination of estrogen and testosterone, my DH wouldn't be able to keep up with me!!

I'm older than you (43), and 29 seems awfully young to me to go without HRT, but you need to follow your MD's advice. I found that after the surgery, my body let me know what I needed.

So, hope this helps you. You're in my thoughts and prayers!

Blessings,
