When? Oh When? will the constipation end?
Can anyone give me any idea how long it might take for the bowels to settle down, I realise it is very different for every person. I generally suffer IBS and usually more the other way (TMI) but the constipation has hit hard. I have been taking softeners since day 1 stimulants since day 5 and have been off everythig but the occassional tylenol since day 4. I have also increased the juice and fruit intake. Now whilst I am 'going ' every day the pain is incredible.
At this rate my 1st trip out alone is going to be to the Gastro guy to get my Haemeroids sorted !!!!

When? Oh When? will the constipation end?
I have the same questions and was going to post something this morning about it.
I'm 5 weeks post op, but nothing. I take the softeners, laxatives, and even enemas. I still don't go. I have lots of pain and lots of gas, but don't go. I too have IBS and have had it all my life and it makes me constipated, so none of this surprises me, but I never go this long without going. Once a week just isn't enough.
I too have tried juices, lots of water, anything with lots of fiber in it and it's getting frustrating. I don't see the doc until the 16th and I'm not sure I can wait that long to get help.
I do hope someone has some suggestions or help for us both.
Good luck to both of us.
Pam

When? Oh When? will the constipation end?
Hi Ladies,
My surgery was Sept 15th and I was having some issues with constipation as well. My endo had nicely wrapped itself around my bowels...so they are tempermental to say the least!
I know IBS can make things worse.... but what I found worked for me was two Senokot-S in the evening before bed. Its very gentle, no major cramps, and really helped me to get things moving.
They gave me this in the hospital as well as a dr recommended treatment.
Maybe it will help..?

When? Oh When? will the constipation end?
Ladies - this too shall pass, but in the meantime it IS painful! I used the Miralax daily for at LEAST 6 weeks. That stuff IS a miracle - LOL!! Then I went to every other day, then every 3 days etc. It took me about 3 months to get off it completely. I then kept taking the stool softeners for another 6 months at least. Things are all normal and good now, 8 months out (I had two major surgeries!) and I am off all bowel stuff.
Hugs and hang in there ~

When? Oh When? will the constipation end?
Hi There, had op 9/9 also have ibs but have been battling with constipation since, its more of a problem than anything else. Tried Manevac, sodium picosulphate and even resorted to picolax. Its not much fun and something I think it would help if u were warned about b4, until this thread I thought it was just me. Sorry others are struggling but at least I know its not just me. I had adhesions sticking bowel to lhs. Trying eatting fruit, fruit juice, rubarb everything!
Thanks for posting the thread, if I find any solutions I'll definitely post.
Hugs

Just my
try prune juice.
If you have an asian market close by, go ask for a package of seedless preserved plums. They have a licorice taste.
Eat cooked cabbage. I will post my "cheater's cabbage rolls" in the recipe section of this site.
Also, remember, nothing in, nothing out.... eat well balanced portions. You may also be countering the problem by introducing too many "fixes"
Wishing you more movement,
Autumn

When? Oh When? will the constipation end?
I am suffering with this too!! Thank you for starting this topic. It was about 2 weeks ago I had the surgery and this is the #1 issue for me the whole time (even though I had other concerns I won't discuss here).
My Dr. gave me a script for 'lactulose'. It takes days for it to work for me. In fact I'm not even sure it works.
I eat a balanced diet, fruit, water, etc. and add in prunes, but I am so frustrated & uncomfortable. A couple of times in the last 3 days, I headed for the 'room', but again, false alarms. Last night I decided to start with the 'Metamucil', a fiber supplement. I hope this works. Once a week is not enough.
I really don't think I should have to spend so much mental stress over this, but it is foremost in my mind.
Suzi, thanks for letting me vent.

One thing that works for me - and please don't mistake this as medical advice - chocolate covered raisins. Not the most healthy thing but it helps & it's more fun than prunes!
