Endometriosis

Hi girls. I haven't seen a board for reasons we are getting Hysters so I thought I would post here (please let me know where to go if not here)

I thought this would be a good chance to hear if the Hyster worked with pain.

I am also wondering if any of you are nervous that the Hyster wont take away all of the pain. I know I am waiting to hear if the Endo has gotten to my colon.

What kind of pains do you have from your Endo?

Endo. & Me...

Hi Coley,

Just wanted to say - you can put your reason in your signature.

Also, talk to your dr. about possibly not doing hormones for at least 6 months after surgery. Basically the hormones "feed" any left-over endometriosis in your body. (This was explained to me by my Dr.) I am on no hormones.

Even if the endo. has attached itself to the colon (or other organs for that matter), not taking hormones should "shrink it up" (Again - told to me by my Dr.).

Make sure you ask all the ??? you have. Write them down. I took a list with me to my pre-op, and pretty much went down the list with him.

Good luck to you!!!

Endometriosis

Hi Coley, I didn't really have much pain from mine. I was starting to get little amounts, but just attibuted that to needing the hyst done and that's all. My doctor didn't even find my endo until I was in surgery. My surgery ended taking about 1 1/2 hours longer than he had anticipated because he wanted to get all the endo cleaned up. He said I had tons of it. So I guess for some of us, maybe depending what it has atteached itself to, the pain isn't as severe. I had to wait 6 weeks before I could start on HRT. My doctor described it as "when you remove the estrogen from the endo, it's like taking oxygen from a fire, it will smother it." So I had to wait. I had hot flashes and night sweats in this time, but I didn't become a raging lunatic or anything. After starting on the hormones, (he put me on prempro, again, he said that the combination would help with the endo), it took about a week and I started noticing a decline in the hot flashes and night sweats. I have been in good shape now ever since. Good luck on your upcoming surgery. Feel free to e-mail if you want to.

Hmmm

I will have to make sure I ask my doctor about the hormons. I asked when I would start them and the nurse told me the same day!

Now I will be armed with some great questions!

Thanks girls

Endometriosis

Hi!
I was totally unaware that I had a humongous amount of endo--no pain at all. I had a laproscopy a year prior, with no signs of endo at that time. I had a hysterectomy (TAH/BSO) in July. The concern at that point was very large ovarian cysts. When the doctor opened me up, she said she was shocked at the amount of endo that had appeared in the past year. She had to do a lot of "scraping" Anyway, like the other ladies also reported, my doctor wanted me to hold off the hormones (for three months). She gave me a 3-month shot of depo-provera to hold off hot flashes, etc. I seem to be fine with this, other than being unable to have a decent night's sleep!

Was that for your hot flases and such? How come you didn't sleep well?

Thanks for your thoughts. I will be asking my doctor!

endometriosis

Hi Coley,

I was diagnosed with Endo in Feb. I have horrible pain. I am scheduled tommorrow for my hyst. My doctor said no hrt for 2 months. He also said he would give me a shot for the hot flashes, etc. He also stated that when I do start the hrt(hormones) and I have a reoccurance, he will pull me off of them. Endometriosis is a terrible disease. I think alot more research should be done, but since it doesn't kill you they all put it on the back burner. I guess I should be grateful, alot of women have been suffering with this disease alot longer than I have. This is just something I did not want to deal with at the age of 34! But everything happens for a reason so I will put my trust in God. Good luck to you. I hope all goes well and you get all your answers to your questions.

UGH Endo!

Nicole ~

I had a TAH/BSO on March 6th at the age of 26. Prior to that, I had 4 laparoscopies and a laparotomy. I went through Lupron treatment 3 different times (A total of 19 shots). I had horrible pain. Not just at the time of my period either. At different times in my life I was basically confined to bed with a heating pad and a bottle of pain pills. I was terrified when the doctor told me that the hyst was not a guarantee that the pain would go away. But, I must say, almost 6 months later I feel better than I have in 15 years. I hope that you can say the same. Did you ever do Lupron? If you can do that, then you can go without hrt for a few months after your hyst. Good luck to you!

Endometriosis

Hi Coley! There is a poll in the Polling Place for reasons for hyst.
Thought you might want to check it out.

Endometriosis

Hi Coley

I had been dealing with endo for five years before my hyst on June 11, 2001. I'm still in pain even after the hyst. My doctor wanted to leave my ovaries in because of my age (29). I ended up having my right ovary removed. I'm not sure if my pain is the endo or something else. I knew going into this that it could return. But I don't regret having my hyst or leaving one ovary in. It was a gamble leaving one ovary in with endo, but I was so scared to be thrown into menepause. I'm going to the doctor monday for my on going pain. I hope to find answers. If it's my ovary I want it out immediately.

I know of three people, personally, that had endo and a total hyst that are pain free. So that makes me wonder if I had both ovaries removed would I be pain free now. I feel we have nothing to loose having a hyst, because what kind of life do we have living in pain everyday.
