Adenomyosis??

It's interesting to me that a lot of you ladies with adno also report having a tilted uterus. I did also. Maybe that has something to do with it? Who knows...I always find out interesting and thought provoking things on this website. We're all so different and yet so very much alike.

Adenomyosis??

I also had endo and adeno....my fibroid was 1/4 lb, and the endo wasnt severly over grown.

So yes, you can have both..I also had an intrauterine polyp, and premature ovarian failure.

The simplest terms I can put andeno into is this metaphore, as I understand adeno to be,.... curl up your hand so it is closed but empty inside, say that is your uterus, pick a knuckle..the bone in that knuckle is an adenomyosis tumor/fibroid.

Adenomyosis can form inside the actual uterine wall, then because it can't shut off blood flow into the uterus the way the uterine walls ARE SUPPOSED to after its done preppping for a possible pregnancy, you have anything from breakthrouh bleeding, or in my case, to 45 day bleeds with horrendous clotts!

My adenomyosis masked my PMOF because I was still having "periods" (which was actually the adenomyosis bleeds).. Come to find out I might actually have been in total menopause for as long as 2 years before I even went to SEE my doc in the first place. Let me tell you...now that I am on HRT, I am no longer flashing, growing weird hair, or loosing it, no more depression..and no more lethargy. I, for the first time in many, many years, feel NORMAL!

Sorry to babble, lol ...hope it helped

Adenomyosis??

It is very common for people with adenomyosis to have a swollen belly and retroverted uterus.

The swollen belly is from the uterus enlarging and the uterus become retroverted because adeno usually starts on the back wall of the uterus and the weight of the adeno pulls the uterus towards the back. Thats my understanding of it anyway

Adenomyosis??

Just a quick statement about my "adeno". Had a SAH on 7/28/05 for suspected adeno. Although I am still waiting for the pathology reports, my Doc said that my uterus was "really boggy and needed to come out". My uterus has been tilted for as long as I can remember and it wasn't until I had my right ovary and tube removed in Feb. of 2004 that I was told about the boggy uterus. Has anyone else heard this term. Just wondering if that goes along with the adeno, although I haven't heard it mentioned in any other posts.

Thanks for listening,

Debb

Adenomyosis??

I was told my uterus was 'boggy' and enlarged because of adeno. Funny my uterus wasn't retroverted - it was falling out - I guess because I had other prolapses and it just followed suit.

Adenomyosis??

I also have endo, adeno, and a 'tipped' uterus. My belly has been growing for a couple years now. I thought I was just getting fat. I had a laparoscopy last Sept and the Dr said my uterus was 'spongy' from the adeno.

Still Wondering

When I started having my heavy bleeding, I first thought it was just a part of my period. My first couple of days were always heavy. I use to just say 'Niagra Falls' to my husband and he would know I started. I remember the first day vividly when I suspected something was wrong. I was lying in the bed and I got this real sharp pain in my stomach. I leaned forward and said whoa. It happened again. I felt like I was peeing on myself. I went to the restroom and said something is wrong. I felt like I was in labor with my last birth (Twins). Very bad birth. I lost 4 pints of blood. Another story. This went on for a couple of months before I went to my then female doctor. After explaining the symptoms, she wanted to examine me eventhough it was that time of the month. She said she felt fibroids and sent me for an ultra sound. I had a vaginal and abdominal. It came back that I had a few fibroids, one bigger than the others. She later sent me to a Ob/Gyn Specialist. His first question to me was "Do you change your pad more than once an hour" I said "Oh yes!" He said he thought I would do well with an Uterine Abalation and explained what it was. I was to call them back if and when I wanted this procedure. I waited a couple of months. The bleeding had got so bad that I messed up a chair at work. Thank God it was black (I was the only female on the night shift with all guys). I called the Dr and scheduled for the next week. I was only off work for the weekend. Everthing went fine for 1 1/2 yrs. I only had lite bleeding, then I started passing clots - not large, but this concerned me. Then the shooting pains would come in my sides along with the clots (more and more as the months went along). There were times at night when the shooting pains would wake me up. I went back to my regular Dr (My other Dr had left)and this Female said the fibroids where not large enough to be causing me problems and I would have to live with it. I grew so frustrated with her on this issue and her lack of caring attitude and waiting time, I switched drs. This time to a male. My husband said " Your not going to like him, he rushes you." I wanted to give him a chance. He listened to me and sent me for yet another ultra sound. It came back that my uterus was a little thick, but there were NO fibroids. I was really upset now. He said I'm sending you to a specialist. I choose the one that did the previous surgery. This time he said you have 3 options, (1)do nothing, take pain pills (2)take birth control pills to try and shrink the fibroids (3)Hysterectomy. I choose the 3rd because I said I am having too much pain for them to think I was crazy and making this up. After the Hysterectomy, my Doctor told me the pathology report came back that I had adenomyosis. I never heard of it and was wondering if he was just telling me this. I went home and researched and found that some doctors don't catch this until after the surgery. I was wondering if I should ask for a copy of the pathology report. I feel much better now. Sorry for the long post

Adenomyosis??

My story is similar to LovingwhoIam's . I had known I had fibroids for many years, but tried an ablation (not always successful with fibroids) to help with the heavy bleeding. After a few months of improvement, the clots started again, and flooding followed. Because of the number of fibroids, their rapid growth, the heavy bleeding, breakthrough and just plain weird bleeding and constant pain, I went for the hysterectomy option. I had never heard of adenomyosis until I started researching my options. I had the tilted uterus, too. The adeno showed up on the pathology report.

Adenomyosis??

This is the first time I have told my story in such detail. Thanks for validating me. I always thought I had a high tolerance for pain, but this made me wonder.

Adenomyosis??

I too have adeno. I had sharp pains, which woke me up at night or had me doubled over in the store. I knew this was not normal! Ultra sound came up with "nothing". They later did a laposcopy and after taking one look at the uterus they said that it was "boggy" and diagnosed "adenomyosis". When they removed the uterus there was nothing but adenomyosis (and yep been dealing with tipped uterus all my life). I'm just glad I no longer have to deal with pain for 2-3 weeks out of the month. Funny thing is my periods actually got shorter til it was just one day a month. All the fluids were being sucked into the uterine wall...so better it was out!
