Re: to pack a bag or not?

Pack a small bag with lip balm and minimal things you might want or need, but the hospital will have most of what you need. My stuff all fit in basicly a handbag and I still didn't use it all. Then you can feel secure, just in case. Best wishes for your surgery.

Re: to pack a bag or not?

stiny,
I don't think there is anything wrong with packing a few items you would need if you were to have to stay a night. You can leave it in the car and you would have it if you needed it.

Best wishes for a safe surgery and speedy recovery.

Re: to pack a bag or not?

stiny0130,

I always like to be prepared "just in case". Like you, I also live about 45 minutes from our hospital. I don't want my hubby going anywhere if he doesn't have to when I'm having stuff like this done. When I had my endometrial ablation I was told that it was an outpatient surgery and that I would only be there for a few hours. I packed a small bag anyway. You're always told there could be complications and that might entail you staying longer. Of course, we all hope to not have the complications and that everything will go as planned! Everything went as planned for my ablation and I was happily going home (although very, very groggy) in a matter of hours. Did I need the bag? No. Did it make me feel better to have it just in case? Yes. If I lived closer to the hospital I don't think I would worry about a bag, but when you live further away like we do we know we're prepared for anything!

Wishing you all the best.

Re: to pack a bag or not?

HI stiny..I had the Da Vinci... they kept me for a 23 hour hold. I packed just some lip balm, some pieces of candy and my brush. I did have my phone and Ipad with me too. I went in for surgery at 9am and was left the hospital at almost exactly 9am the next day. I would suggest packing just something light. I just wore my slippers to the hospital. Wear extremely light fitting pants...and an oversized T shirt. That is what I came home in too since once you get to the hospital you are taken back to pre op and put into a gown. I wish you an easy surgery and just remember, as far as recovery, don't try to push it too soon.

Re: to pack a bag or not?

I'd pack a little something too. I was told I was going to kept for "observation" overnight due to all the endometriosis adhesion removal. I always want to be prepared too. It makes me worry a little less, feel better prepared, and if I don't need it, then it can stay in the car or with my DH.

Re: to pack a bag or not?

I packed a bag for the night before my surgery, cause I wanted to be in my nighty when I was taken home.....

You are going to want to stay a comforable as possible.... Make sure you have a spair in case of accidents.... I sandwitched my abdomine between 2 heating pads on low... It helped alot with dealing with the pain..... Are you also getting a Bladder sling?

Re: to pack a bag or not?

I am packing a small bag. Well, this is me we are talking to sooo um it's not a small bag but for me, i'm packing light! LOL Seems like I cant go to work with out a spare change of clothes, extra undies and toothbrush.. so why would I go to the castle without all that? I can always leave it in the car if I don't need it. And like mom always said, better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it!

Good luck!
