Pre-Op and Scared to DEATH!!!!
Had the pre-op done today. They sent me home with an enema and a batadine douche to use the night before surgery. Lovely. Haven't read about that anywhere here :confuse:
They told me that the day of my surgery that Iwill be in the recovery room and they will give me a morophine drip and I will probably have a cath in 2 days and might be in the hospital 4. does all this sound right? The nurse that I had looks like she was around when they put the first stone in the hospital
Anyway, the big count down is on and I'm getting scared. I was hoping to only be in the hospital 1-2 days.
Any help and calming you can lend will be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks so much for this wonderful website!!!

Pre-Op and Scared to DEATH!!!!
I believe the length of the hospital stay depends on many things, some of which are the type of procedure done, how you are doing after surgery, and DR. preference.
I had a TAH/BSO and had surgery on a Wednesday afternoon and went home late Friday morning. My catheter came out the next morning after surgery. I didn't have any bladder repair work done, and some of the gals here that had that procedure in addition to their hyst had the caths in longer.
I also had the Betadine douch because DR was planning a LAVH for me, but had to convert to the TAH because my uterus was larger than he expected. My DR didn't require any bowel prep except for nothing to eat or drink after midnight. Every DR seems to be different on this requirement.
Best of luck to you. I'm sure everything will be just fine, and you will be a rincess: before you know it!!

try to relax
I had a TVH-BSO on Nov 20th and the waiting is the hardest part! I have to do an enema the night before but not douche but I wouldn't consider that a big deal!
Anyway- I went in early Tues morning surgery took about an hour and a half I am not sure how long I was in recovery cause I was out of it. Had the morphine pump -- never really hurt but I pushed the button just in case! Had cath in until next morning and then later that afternoon they took out IV (morphine Pump) but me on pain pills--still never hurt just uncomfortable at times. I went home Thursday morning never took another pain pill after that Saturday -- I have been amazed!
Actually at 2 weeks post op I feel more than I have ever felt -- still don't hurt I think just healing like my insides are contracting I am assuming that I am just healing!
Good Luck to you and if you have any more questions feel free to ask us -- I learned more on this site than anyway else!
God Bless!

All sounds normal!
I had a tah/bso june 18th and I had to do the enema and douche thing. wasn't bad just yuccy. All sounds normal for what I did except I was in only 3 days. Done on Monday morning and went home wed. morning. they took the cath out on tues. morning and the iv wed. before I went home. had a little problem with gas on tues. night but not too much after I got home just a lot in the hospital and when I got home (just around the house, inside). It is worse to think about then it really is to have done. waiting is the hard part you can really put that imagination into overdrive. Put on that brake and try to rest these last few days. Soon you will be a new and , and just like everyone else. God Bless.

Pre-Op and Scared to DEATH!!!!
Hi lawyerwannabe,
I'm impressed that they gave you the products. I had to go scouring around the pharmacy and grocery finding mine. I had the douche even fro TAH/BSO.
I had cath in about 24 hours (because I had a Burch bladder suspension also). My surgery was late Wed. and they gave me the choice of home Fri. night or Sat. a.m. I opted for the morning due to other family events.
At my hospital the criteria for going home were: tolerates solid food, able to take oral pain medication, able to get up and move around room and hall. Your insurance won't keep you there any longer than necessary. Hope the hours until your big day fly by. Jan

hospital stay
I HAD A VAGINAL HYSTER AND WENT IN ON A FRIDAY MORNING SURGERY TOOK AROUND TWO HOURS WASBROUGHT BACK TO MY ROOM FOR RECOVERY I WAS HOOKED TO THE MORPHINE PUMP I WAS CRAMPY AND SORT OF UNCOMFORTABLE I HAD A CATHE UNTIL THE NEXT DAY WHEN I AS RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL I WAS ONLY IN THE HOSPITAL FOR ONE DAY. I PERSONALLY THINK THEY SENT ME HOME TO EARLY, TO SOON, BECAUSE THE DOCTOR TOLD ME THAT NEXT MORNING THAT THE ONLY WAY I WOULD GO HOME WOULD BE IF I PASSED GAS AND ATE SOLID FOOD NEITHER ONE OF THESE THINGS HAD HAPPEN WHEN I WAS DISMISSED FROM THE HOSITAL. WHEN IWENT HOME I WAS CRYING AND IN PAIN WHEN THEY RELEASED ME FROM THE HOSPITAL I HAD JUST HAD THE CATHER REMOVED AND THEY HAD ME GET UP AND TRY TO PEE WHICH WAS VERY HARD FOR ME AND THEY DID NOT SEEM TO CARE THAT I WAS SO DELICATE. SO KEEP YOUR EYES AND EARS OPEN DONT LET THE DO THIS TO YOU.
