Staples vs. Stitches

What was your experience with staples versus stitches? I just don't like the idea of staples at all. I was considering requesting that my DR use stitches. What are your thoughts?

Staples vs. Stitches

Hi there,

Well, I'm not sure that this is up to the patient. I think some factors, such as weight, might determine what the doctor prefers to do.

Personally, I really wouldn't worry about this aspect of it.

good luck!

Staples/Stiches

I had both and don't have a preference... For me they both had the same end result and didnt feel much different. You might get a better response to your post type questions in the Post Op Support Forum! You will see alot of information about what ladies are feeling post op... And if you havent already checked out the Pre-op Forum, do that too.....

Good luck to you!!!!

Hi,

I had staples with my TAH last year, and like you, I worried about them pre-op. But you know what? They weren't a problem.

Your incision will be rather numb for awhile after the surgery, so you won't feel the staples at all, and it absolutely doesn't hurt when they are removed.

I've had stitches before, and they not only leave a funky scar, but they also hurt like crazy when they were removed.

You'll do fine, either way. Just hang in there, you'll be on the "better" side before you know.

s,

Lisa

Staples vs. Stitches

When they did my surgery they used stitches internally and staples externally. Looked like I had a metal zipper all the way down my front. I was dreading having them removed - but like Shashi said - it didn't hurt at all!

Staples vs. Stitches

I have had stitches, clips, staples and for my hyst, a 'bobble and bead' running stitch with a bead on each end!

My vote definitely goes to the staples!! Most comfy and easiest out!!!!

Good luck

Staples vs. Stitches

I have had both stitches and staples for previous surgeries. With my 1st c-section I had stitches, didn't feel them when they were there or when they were removed. I had staples with the other 2 c-sections and found out I was allergic to them. They burned and when they were removed they left little sores behind. I didn't feel them being removed except a little pulling, nothing painful. I told my dr. and so I am having stitches with my TAH/BSO tomorrow morning.

I wouldn't have minded having staples again except for the allergic reaction. I can't even wear my pierced ear rings without getting an infection!

Talk to your dr about it, he may have a preference or he may not care.

I was so worried about having staples I told the Dr. could I please have stitched. I know someone who had staples had poped open. My stitches dissolve, so they did not have to come out.
