Lupron

Has anyone had these shots? Did they help your symptoms...i.e. bleeding, pain etc. I have uterine fibroids, small, but problematic. I'm on the pill now which has slowed the flow, but still getting painful cramps etc. I am an emotional wreck and want to get things back in order. I don't want to have a hysterectomy, but may not have a choice.

Thanks, Susan.

Lupron

I tried Lupron for two months before I had my complete hysterectomy. I had two one-month shots. Although they seemed to help me somewhat, I got a headache that lasted for about 21-22 days. I'm not sure if this was from the Lupron or not though. I seemed to have more side effects from the second shot and decided to have the surgery instead of another shot. I've always been pretty sensitive to medication though. It usually doesn't take a very high dose for me to "react" to it.

Lupron

If you do a site search for "Lupron" you will find many threads discussing Lupron. It has been a big help for some, not so for others.

Talk to your dr, get a second opinion, read all you can (keep in mind more people post negative than positive) and decide what is right for you!

Lupron

Hi Susan,

I did (3) months of lupron shots before my LSH. To shrink my fibroids enough for my less invasive hyst.

Lupron is not for everyone since it causes temporary chemical menopause. I had one period after my 1st shot and that was it until surgery. I did experience hot flashes and night sweats. But, no weight gain. Good news is that the lupron decreased my pelvic pressure from my fibroids before surgery.

Lupron is a temporary band-aid. My Dr. told me lupron helps to decrease the production of estrogen. And, my Dr. also told me that the minute the lupron was out of my system, my fibroids would have grown back if I had not opted for a hyst. So, that is a downsize.

For me, I would do lupron again to have the surgery results I have now.

I'm in the middle of Lupron therapy ...

We're also attempting to shrink my fibroids so I can have a TLH instead of a TAH, so I'm on a series of 3 injections.

I just had my second shot last Monday. The first month was certainly a roller coaster! The first injection came right before my period was due, and I had about a week and a half of a huge estrogen surge. Then the levels started plummeting, and my period 2 1/2 weeks after the first injection. It lasted 14 days, and it was a real gusher! Right before that period ended, I had my second injection.

I've been having night sweats, mild hot flashes, sore joints, and my hair seems to be shedding much more than normal. It hasn't been very fun, but I keep telling myself that it will be shrinking those fibroids. Cross your fingers for me that it works!
