Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Aug 16, 2015
Hi. I'm having a TAH leaving ovaries if they "look good". I'm really nervous. Last night I woke up drenched in sweat after nightmares. I have not had a regular cycle in about 10 months. I have used some type of feminine product every day. My uterus cannot be visualized with US because of scar tissue. I'm just really nervous. I hope everyone's surgeries go as planned!

Ladies!
I'm and to you.
While it's normal to be nervous, before you know it surgery will be over and you will be beginning your recovery journey. Keeping yourself busy will help with the pre-op nerves . So if you find your nerves are getting the better of you, try to find something to distract yourself....maybe some fun activity you enjoy doing; or some special treat for yourself; or reading to your little ones; or playing games with your kids (including the fuzzy, four-legged ones); or just spending time with your family; or finishing any last minute preparations; or thinking about how wonderful it will be to wear light colors anytime you want, being able to wear pretty panties without worrying that they'll be ruined, being able to go on a vacation when you want to without trying to plan one around that time of the month, not having a vacation disrupted by that time of the month, not having to map out the location of all the bathrooms when you go on an outing; or by planning some fun trip once you are recovered; or ...._______________(you fill in the blank).
Ladies, you can do this!
for your surgery and a quick, uneventful recovery.

Greta, I'm a respiratory therapist so I know what you mean about knowing too much. I might ask for some versed if I get to anxious (which I needed before my total thyroidectomy). I also have a cancer diagnosis--mine is mullerian adenosarcoma.
Hope all goes well!

I agree with you . . . knowing too much can can be "dangerous". I am a research librarian so I researched everything to the nth degree and I had to stop because I was learning "too much". It has to be hard when you are trained in the medical field . . . you know know all the "what if's" that can happen. This is when you will need to set aside your knowledge about what can go wrong and and use that knowledge to look at what can go right. You will be in good hands . . . just like those you work with are.
on your surgery. We will see you on the other side.

Hi, I'm having a LAVH on Wednesday. I've never had surgery before so I'm not sure how much pain to expect but I figure it can't be any worse that what I've been having. I'm a little nervous, but mostly just excited to finally been done with all of this.
Good luck to all of you having surgery this week.

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Aug 16, 2015
Hi everyone!
I am getting ready for my hysterectomy on Thu the 20th. I'm not good with all the acronyms but I will be having partial laprascopic and then partial vaginal.
I have severe endo and cyst and I also have very severe PMDD and every month has just gotten worse and worse. I tracked my symptoms and took the notepad to my gyno and he said let's do a complete hyst. I have been on every type of birth control, antidepressants, been diagnosed bi-polar which I know is a wrong dx. Finally I found a Gyno who would listen to me and trust that I know what's going on with my body.
I'm 32 with one child and we have not prevented pregnancy for the past 7years with no other conception. So we have decided that my state of mind and quality of life will be better off by having this done. I really am so ready to not be in the horrible cycle that is PMDD every month!
