Contact Lens Issues?

Hi everyone,

I don't know if this is totally because of my hyster but thought I would ask here.

Since my surgery on June 1st, I can't wear my contacts without my eyes feeling like they have sand in them and turning red. (Like pink-eye red!) Has anyone else had a problem with their contacts? I wonder if it is a change that needs a different type of contact lens?

Re: Contact Lens Issues?

I had my surgery on July 26 and have not noticed any difference in my contacts. I am 59 and post menopausal.

I had something like that happen about a year before my surgery and an eyelash had grown inward towards my eye.

I was also told a long time ago that my contact fitting would change with any changes in my birth control pills. Maybe your hormones are different changing your contact fitting?

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Re: Contact Lens Issues?

I have not had that issue, but I have noticed that after my surgery my eyes were drier then normal. Not sure it its really due to surgery, or just possibly a coiencidence.

Re: Contact Lens Issues?

I did have trouble with my lenses. I was finally able to wear them again about 8 weeks out. I just wore my glasses during my recovery and started wearing them a couple hours a day to build back up to a full day.

Re: Contact Lens Issues?

Thanks everyone! Maybe I need to just build up a tollerance again. I got a new pair of glasses to tide me over.

Re: Contact Lens Issues?

I think dry eyes are part of your skin drying. I wear contacts but have been using eye drops for years for allergies. These eye drops are probably helping me now with providing extra moisture. It could also be that you are indoors more than usual, or that cool air (AC) is blowing on you all the time since you are hot and turn on the AC more. Mention it to your eye care provider. There are over the counter eyedrops for contact lens wearers; you may want to get some of those.

Re: Contact Lens Issues?

I also wear contacts but have not had this problem. My hysterectomy was on July 20th.
