Wake up every 2 hrs with terrible headache that goes away if I get up and walk around
I had a partial laperoscopic (DaVinci) hysterectomy on 9/28. I was able to keep my right ovary. Surgery was complicated by serious scar tissue from previous c section and took almost 5 hours. I lost alot of blood but did not require a transfusion. I have had a headache on and off since I got out of surgery. At first it was all the time and accompanied by nausea and vomiting - I required IV Regalin in the hospital to control vomiting and phenargan first day home. Now i just get it after sleeping in a lying down position for 2 or more hours. When I wake up my mouth is dry and my head is throbbing - it almost feels hot. If I get up and walk around a bit it goes away but comes back again in a few hours if I go back to sleep. No headache at all during the day. My doctor is stumped. I am afraid to go to sleep tonight. Anyone ever heard of this?

Did you have spinal anesthesia or general? Also, your back could be out of alignment due to positioning on OR table...that could definitely cause headaches while lying down at night.

I agree with Magplad. It could be your back/neck or the anesthesia. I hear it takes a long time for the anesthesia to leave your body. I suggest drinking lots Of water to help flush it out. I like to sleep with a heating pad or magic bag on the back of my neck when I have a headache. Hope you feel better soon.

Re: Wake up every 2 hrs with terrible headache that goes away if I get up and walk ar
After my surgery I would develop headaches everytime I took any medicine. Norco- headache, Percoset- headache, Motrin= headache. These were drugs I was taking before and never had a problem with. After the surgery I couldn't take anything or else I would get a major headache and nausea. I also had this weird head and neck pain. Whenever I would lay my head on a pillow or the bed or couch, it would leave me with this horrible pain as well. It was like the touch of fabric would be like a knife stabbing me in the neck and head.
Then after all of this.... It just disappeared 6 days later. All of a sudden I was back to my normal self with no head or neck pain... no pain at all. I have no idea what caused it or what got rid of it but I'm glad it's gone. It was like my whole body chemistry changed for 6 days.

I also got severe neck/shoulder pain that started in week 1 and lasted 6 or so days. I attributed it to laying down all the time. Hurt as much as the surgery... But I didn't have the headache. And like UpIntheAir, it just suddenly went away.

I had daVinci hysto six days ago and cannot believe the headaches I've been having. I've read that headaches can be a side effect of both vicodin and ibuprofen, which boggles my mind... as it is, I've been having to sort out dosages that keep me comfortable but don't cause diarrhea... not easy so far. Keep telling myself things could be worse... as I grit my teeth through yet another headache.
