4 1/2 weeks post hysterectomy, Swelly Belly, Fatigue, & Pulled Something Inside

I am 4 1/2 weeks post Hysterectomy, kept ovaries and had endometriosis removed. However, I am experiencing severe swelly belly. They say move, walk, and the more I do the more it swells up.. I use ice but not sure what else to do. I am so tired, even mid day. I am usually the energizer bunny but I'm tired just doing simple things. Today, I literally went down two stairs to yell at my dog, and pulled something inside and am now in awful pain.

I feel like the more I do, the more I swell, get tired and hurt. But yet at the same time I'm told to walk and move around. I can't just lay around and do nothing. Any suggestions to overcome this swelly belly? Fatigue? I know I must have accidently pulled something in lower area underneath belly button but should I call dr? Thanks everyone ahead of time for your comments.

Re: 4 1/2 weeks pot op, Swelly Belly, Fatigue, & Pulled Something Inside

Hi there! The swelly belly is something all of us go through. It will go away on its own. As you noticed it gets worse with more activity and likely in the evenings with a full day of activity. In the morning it is a lot less since we've given our body a rest. See the HS article - Swelly Belly.

Fatigue happens as we increase our activities and our body is getting used to it all again. When I had gone back to work, I was glad I had gone back part-time, because fatigue had hit me after that half day. I went home and took a 2-3 hour nap. My body was telling me that I needed a rest as it was not used to all that activity. Who knew that sitting up would take that much energy. I found that fatigue started decreasing when I was released and increased my activities. I do find that when I embark on a new activity or increase an existing one, fatigue does find me again and I want to take a nap. I take the cue and do just that. Listen to your body. If you are feeling fatigued, it is time to take a rest break. Maybe the next day pull back on some of your activities or take more frequent rest breaks. Fatigue does get better each week and before you know it you will barely notice it. See HS article - Fighting Fatigue .

For the pull, if you find that applying an ice pack, taking ibuprofen and/or resting overnight does not touch the pain or if the pain persists, it may give you peace of mind to call the doc. They will know the questions to ask to determine if you need to go in.

Rest well!

Hi, fatigue is your body still healing...The more active you are, the more the belly may swell with fatigue..Fatigue can also be due to reduced estrogen. I have my ovaries but theres a reduced function bc zi notice fatigue later in the day mostly, so I take soy daily but ask your Dr if you can.

Swelly belly may hang out longer than we want...Reduce salt, water, walking..Keep the GI system moving so you avoid bloat from GI. The rest appears as edema. I think reduced estrogen contributes, maybe a sluggish lymphatic system too? Ice for swelling. Heat for pains. Youre probably OK with that pull, just rest. Feel better!
