Newly crowned and enjoying royal treatment

Post Preview:
Hello all! I'm home and officially a princess now!

I had a TAH BSO on Monday (1-8) morning , but ended up staying in castle till this morning, Friday. I'm not sure why the extra days, but I think I am glad for the extra rest time there.

I went in early Monday and had the usual talks with anesthesiolist and nurses. I had moaned and groaned all day Sunday because Doc had me on clear liquids at noon and 2 bottles of magnesium citrate, plus Fleets enema at bedtime. I was definitely empty. But, did I get a surprise when the nurse brought in a huge IV bag full of soapy water looking stuff for another enema on Monday morning. They did let me do this (with the patient wonderful help of DH- a little humiliating, but he was right there and looked at me and knew I didn't want that stranger helping me. Luckily the day surgery room I was in pre-op had a handy little portaapotty built in ta cabinet. Then, they brought another IV bag of medicated douche stuff. Sorry, sounds intense, but I really think that all this pre-stuff was the key to smooth sailing for me.

Surgery was about 1 1/2 hours and Doc came out and told DH that she had to do a vertical incision, but realized this before the first cut. Evidently she was able to do a better exam when I was out. We knew there was one huge football size fibroid that even covered the ovaries up during ultras ound. What she found was 4 huge ones. She said they were like football size, soccer ball, cantaloupe and softball size! No wonder I thought I was dying with pain. One was pressing on the back and evidently was the source of the back pain. Anyway everything came out okay.

When I woke up, I too had the very sore and dry throat. Ice was wonderful. She put me in a abdominal binder, which has been great for support. It really helps a lot.

I had a wonderful morphine pump until Tuesday a.m. and then they took it away and I finally got where I wasn't groggy. I had vicodan for pain and really didn't need much. I was uncomfortable more than in pain, but not bad at all. I was so afraid of prblems. I am rather large and thought it would be hard getting up and down and moving, but I've done great. I stayed in bed all day Tuesday, just rolling from side to side and propping myself up and elevating head of bed. For some reason, they didn't push me to get up, which worried me a little. Just as they were going to get me up on Tuesday, I got a roomate and they had to work with her for a long time. It seems that the hospital was full and they were even moving men to the women's center section. I kept rolling myself over andpulling up in bed, but I didn't push the getting up. On Wednesday morning, I got up and it wasn't pad, just a slow process and a little pain that first time. I got to take a shower, which felt wonderful. I was on clear liquid and at noon Wednesday got a strained liquid meal. I was not having the dreaded gas pains and I guess that was the delay in my staying longer. The Doc wanted me to be able to pass the gas (sorry for the grossness, but this seems like the highlight of success for them) and even prefered for me to have a BM before I left. I was up and down quite a bit and had no problem peeing after the catheter was removed. It was just a slow process. Anyway, everything was okay and I made the progress they wanted and thought I would come home Thursday night. Doc. said she'd just as soon me spend that one last night since I had a tiny temp. I was okay this morning and got released.

My DH and son are really pampering me I feel wonderfull. There worst part was the ride home and I was hurting after that. But 2 Vicodans and a long nap took care of that. I am up for a few minutes and wanted to say the view from this side looks great!

Hang in there ladies--it is worth the wait.

Howdy!

Hi! I just wanted to take a minute to congratulate you! Today is three weeks home for me and I must agree with you that the view is looking good! I feel better. I am amazed at what they took out of you, I thought my belly was swollen, but hey! Nothing compared to that! I am sure that you will feel better and better, just don't overdo...The Pillow Police are really fierce! Feet up is the key. (I had to find out the hard way as my belly got extremely swelly!) So best of luck to you! Life's a gas!

Wow..you are amazing! I think everything you said was great, not gross. It's natural body processes, and I'd rather know and be prepared.
It's funny, I'm almost scared what they'd find inside me, that I can't see.
Please keep us posted, and btw, your hubby must be really special to help you with an enema. I'm close to my hubby, and don't know if I could ask him.
Get some rest, and keep us updated? Hugs!!

Welcome home! It must be great. I am so happy everything went well for you. Sounds like a lot of enemas. I only have one the night before surgery and a douche the night before surgery (which is on 1/17). My husband was surprised I wasn't given "go lightly" stuff to drink. That's OK, I've had it before. Yuck!

Take it easy and let those men pamper you! Lots of love, JamieLynn in good ol' Idaho.
