Re: what to take to the hospital?

I did not use half of the items I brought.Slippers and a robe is always good. Maybe some chapstick for your lips as mine got really dry. I took a couple of magazines, but rarely looked through them. At the hospital I was in they supplied toothbrush/paste and lotion. I really was not up to much, but you may be different...I also had a TAH.

Take care,

lala

Re: what to take to the hospital?

I didn't use a whole lot either but I was especially glad I had the following:
cell phone
gas-x
throat lozenges
Ipod
a comfy/cute lounge type outfit to change in to
and the best advice I took was to use a fanny pack for that stuff so that I could attach it to my bed rail and have it within easy reach.

Re: what to take to the hospital?

I sent everything that I took home with my hubby to bring back the next day. I was so out of it that I didn't need anything that the hospital couldn't get me. I had never been in the hospital before so I was really traumatized. If you are doing well you may want some gas-x & Chapstick. Best wishes.

Re: what to take to the hospital?

I was only suppose to be in the hospital over night but ended up being in for 3 or 4 days (long story).

This is what I took:
IPOD - I had a touch IPOD which saved me because my hospital had wireless so I could check email.
Cell Phone
Throat Lozenges
Night Shirt (I did not want my butt showing when I was walking - LOL). The nurses can stop your IVs so you can change. It takes 2 minutes.
Slippers
Chapstick
Pair of flip flops or slip on shoes.
I took my tolietries. The first day I used their toothbrush but I liked mine, my teeth felt cleaner.

I also took a shower (with my own bath gel and shampoo and conditioner) which made me feel 1000 X better. Also, I would say take a shower before you leave because a) they have someone there if you need help and b) they have a seat in their shower so you can sit down if you need to and c) you might not feel like taking a shower when you get home for a day or so and this way you have everything you need at the hospital help wise.

I know there are others on here who recommend taking a shower (if your doctor allows it) before you leave the hospital.

I did not take Gas-X with me. You need to check with your hosptial/doctor if they allow you to bring your own over the counter medicines to take while in the hospital. Some do not.

Good luck with your surgery. Also, something nice at my hospital they had a wireless connection. I wish I would have had my parents bring my laptop up to the hospital because the time would have gone by much faster.

Re: what to take to the hospital?

I was happy to have the following:

Extra fuzzy socks
lip balm (especially right after you wake up from the surgery)
my hairbrush
toothbrush and paste
soft clean clothes for the return trip

I had magazines and my cell phone, but I didn't feel well enough to even think of using them. I couldn't wear my own night gown because of the IV. Just be sure your clothing to wear home is easy to put on and soft against your belly.

Re: what to take to the hospital?

I went home same day but I was prepared in case the plan changed. I have had abdominal removal of ovary and fallopian tube prior so I had an idea of what I would want/need:

My own Pj's. I had packed a night shirt as well as regular Pj's. Layers -- t-shirt plus long sleeve pj shirt to go over top to help regulate temperature.
"Granny" panties -- Even though I was going in for a da Vinci surgery I knew there was a possibility of a lower incision.
tolietries (I didn't need them because they sent me home the same day)
Anything that makes you feel "safe." I think Dr's and Nurses and med professionals sometimes forget the emotional side of having surgery and being in a hospital.
If you don't need it, you won't be sorry you have it. But if you do need it, you'll want it.
