Hysterectomy, rectocele and cystocele repair scheduled 9/21. Questions breastfeeding newborn in hospital after surgery?

I'm having a hysterectomy and a rectocele and cystocele repair on the 21st. I'll be just under 3 months past part from having number 17. My Gyno is doing a vaginal hysterectomy but will be making two small holes above my pubic bone to access the area to tack up my bladder. I had an emergency appendectomy back in 2000, it was not laparoscopic and I recall the post surgery pain being worse than any labor or delivery :-P so I will be using a pillow. I do tend to have a high pain tolerance and I do want to continue nursing the baby, so I'm not sure what kind of pain meds I'm going to need or be using. I haven't needed so much as tylenol or ibuprofen for postpartum pain but I'm not so dumb to think I won't need anything for pain after all he is doing in there. lol I'm told I will be staying overnight (my surgery is at 8:30am) and i'm having my husband, as well as my newborn, stay with me at the hospital overnight. I'm bringing my breast pump so I can pump and dump 6 hrs post wakeup.
Is there anything else I should be considering? I did read the checklist but besides the pillow and maybe mesh panties.. it's pretty common knowledge to me.

Sounds like you are prepared. I had a TVH (vaginal hysterectomy) and did have pain meds in hospital, but only Aleve once I got home. However, I didn't have the extra repairs. You won't have a large incision to deal with, so that's a plus. I don't know which meds dictate not using your own milk, but wanted to offer some support. I hope all goes well for you, let us know how you are doing.
