Home from surgery!!!!!! Lots to say!!!

Hi all. I had my TVH, bladder sling, and rectocele repair on 12/17. I spent 2 nights in the hospital, and and 3 nights and my Mother's. I was bored stiff. Couldn't wait to get home.
I had an epidural, and it did not hurt at all. I drifted in and out during the surgery, they didn't seem to enjoy my conversation, because put me down as soon as I started to talk!! I had a morpine pump for pain, and tordal shots after that, in conjunction with percocet and ibuprofen 800 mg. I did have to fight the nurses for my medication!!! They seemed to always want to bring it late. Do fight for your meds, so the pain is kept under control, and you will be fine. I feel great, stool softeners and gas pills, just like is recmmened on this site did the trick. And as a last experience, MAKE SURE THEY DEFLATE YOUR CATHETER COMPLETLEY BEFORE THEY PULL IT OUT!!! ASK TO PULL IT OUT YOURSELF IF YOU ARE CONCERNED. I learned this the hard way. Don't just let them withdraw the liquid from the bulb, make them cut the tube and let the liquid drain out. It really hurts otherwise, and can do major damage. Good luck to all. I feel great, and was terrified before surgery, shouldn't have been, it was all fine. Cindy

Home from surgery!!!!!! Lots to say!!!

HI.

Just a word of caution don't let anyone cut the catherter tube to let the fluid filled bulb deflate. The majority of catherter manufactured today will not drain if the tubing is cut and if you have a catheter that is manufactured to not deflate when cut the problem that can occurr is the cathter bulb will not delate and there is a risk of the catherter retracting back into the bladder.

To make sure the bulb is fully deflated when they are going to remove the catheter is to look at the syringe and if there is no more fluid in the syringe when they deflate the bulb prior to it's revmoval ( each catherter has a specific amount of fluid injected into the bulb on insertation, so ask the they make sure they know the amount of fluid that was inserted and make sure that amount is obtained in the syringe when they deflate the bulb). So ask the nurse to disengage the syringe and then reactach the syringe and pull back the syringe again, then if there is no fluid no fluid in the syringe the bulb has been fully drained and is safe to remove.

Hope this helps.
