Questions about LEEP w/conization

I am going Monday for a LEEP w/conization because my pap came back with squamous cell carcinoma and the colposcopy couldn't find my margins so I still don't know what's going on after 21/2 months. Anyway I know several of you have had LEEPs and I would like to know what to expect. I am alergic to pain (I break out in screams)lol so should I expect much pain afterward? Also the doctor said I would only be off work 3 days but I do alot of heavy lifting (50-75lbs) will I be able to do this without causing bleeding or damage? My gyn said this is usually done in the office but since she has to go so deep she wants to do this in the hospital due to the risk of bleeding

Debbie, maybe I can offer a little reassurance. I had a LEEP procedure done in August, although without the conization. My doctor was very good about making sure I didn't feel any (or at least very much) pain. She kept asking me to make sure. As far as afterwards, I was a little tender for a few days, but no great amount of pain(Advil worked just fine). I also do heavy lifting(people). My doctor put me on lifting restrictions until the bleeding stopped, which for me was about like the last couple days of a period. I had mine done on a Thursday and was lifting carefully again by the next Thursday. Also restrictions for sexual relations. For me the gross part was the discharge associated with the topical medication she used to control the bleeding. Even though the doc told me it would look like little brown chunks, it was still pretty gross to see. Fortunately it was gone in 3-5 days.
Your procedure may be different because it sounds like it is more extensive. You may want to call the doctor and ask if you can get something to relax you before the procedure, and try and line up a friend or family member to take you home afterwards. I also suggest you take your own pad(s) with you, as all my doctor had was the standard thick hospital variety.
Hope this helps some. Best wishes for a good outcome. My results still took about 10 days, so there was still some anxiety on my part afterward. Fortunately everything "there" was OK, but ended up without a cervix a couple of months later when everything else came out. I didn't like the procedure well enought to want to repeat it. (lol)
Sorry this was so long. Didn't mean to ramble.

Questions about LEEP w/conization

Dee

Thanks so much for the info. I will be getting a general anesthesia but I was worried about waking up in pain. The dr told me I would have very little pain but I have had some of those "little pinches" before and it sure didn't feel like a LITTLE pinch to me so I don't trust it when a dr says a "little" pain. You have really relieved my mind I can take it if it can be relieved by advil. I know what your talking about with the gross discharge had that after my colposcopy and biopsy I can live with it I guess it could be alot worse.

Again thank you
