D-Day December 6, 2005 - 3 surgeries - good idea?

Hi All,

I have to have a hysterectomy so I decided that if I were going to be knocked out and out of work for 4 - 6 weeks I needed to have everything done I could. So I am having a bladder sling and a tummy tuck at the same time. Three different surgeons back to back. Yikes! Has anyone out there had these 3 surgeries at the same time? I sure would like to hear from you!

Also, this close to my surgery and I have been bleeding since October 17th. Very light at fist but realy heavy for the last 6 days. Should I contact my doc - if so what can he do for me?

Thanks for any info!

Vickie

I didn't have all those surgeries at once but wanted to wish you well.

I think that letting your dr know about the bleeding is a good idea. Long or heavy bleeding can cause anemia and that could cause surgery to be postponed.

Yikes - I didn't think about anemia! I woke up last night & was so dizzy. I have been in bed all weekend. Only getting up to go to the bathroom & eat. I guess I will call the Dr. in the morning - I certainly do not want to postpone this. Thanks so much for the great advice!

Dear Vickie,

I had an abdominal hysterectomy and vaginal posterior repair at the same time. One surgeon did the hyst and another did the repair. It is definitely harder recovering from 2 sites at once - there is bound to be more pain involved. However, I certainly don't regret it. I knew that if I had one without the other I would be disappointed with the results, realistically I wouldn't have had the second op for ages, I'm only taking one absence from work, one getting help from everyone, etc, etc. And recovering from general anaesthetic once!

So I suppose what I'm saying is, it's a harder recovery but worth it.

Good luck with everything,
Miz x

Hello Miz,

I am glad to hear someone else wants a few things done at the same time. I too have a honeydo list for my surgeon. I have a hernia that I want him to repair and I was going to ask him to take out my gallbladder while he is at it. He said that he would fix the hernia if the surgery was not to complicated. I have not thrown the gall bladder thing at him yet. He is a gyn/onc so who knows. Now , on the tummy tuck, I had one a year and a half ago. Best ****ed thing I ever did. I was very happy with the result. As far as the recovery, It was much better than I had anticipated. Now, I am sure having the extra's may make it harder but remember that the tummy tuck is superficial. It's just the large cut that takes time to heal. I don't know if you will be getting muscle repair but wow, you will be so thrilled after all is said and done. Just remember to keep that binder on. I called my woogie, it was like the security blankie. I felt safe and comfy with it on and it really kept the swelling at bay. I wish you great luck with it all. I am mourning my surgery because my oh so beautiful tummy will be butchered. I just want to cry.
