I'm Home
I'm was home from hospital on Saturday afternoon, surgery was last Wednesday, coming along, but can't sit at computer long, so will post more later about my surgery experience.
I decided to weigh myself this morning since I hadn't ate an solids from the Tues to to Fri (four days). Starting eating better once I got home from hospital on Saturday. I am so depressed I'm up 10 pounds from when I went into the hospital!! How can this be? Has anyone else had this happen. I'm thinking because of being swollen, as I feel so bloated or maybe retaining fluids since this is only Day 6 after surgery. I'm hoping I will go back down. How long does the swelling or bloating last?
Ok gotta go!!

I'm Home
Hi there - I had my surgery 5 days before you and still have a very swollen belly. From all that I've read, it can take quite a while for it to go down: weeks, even months (God help me - when I go back to work in a few weeks nothing will fit me1). The weight gain you have now is probably from all the fluids that were pumped into you. If you have a tendency to retain fluids, it will take a little time for your body to release what it is holding, but it will. And don't stop drinking water, because if you do, your body will try even harder to hold onto those fluids. Drink water - keep yourself hydrated, and give yourself time. Keep in touch, I'm here in Massachussetts, healing up along with you. We will emerge from tis experience better than ever!

I'm Home
Hi Dakotapup
I was up 6 pounds the day after my surgery - the fellow on my case said it must be the good hospital food! LOL after a liquid breakfast.....
My bloating didn't start to go down until about a week to 10 days post-op, having finally had a good BM and continuing to drink at least 2 litres of water a day. At 9 weeks post-op I still have a little bloating if I eat foods that are wrong for me. I also make sure I drink a cup of prune juice every morning and lots of water during the day.
I also find that walking helps keep bloating and water retension at bay.
So, try to take it easy but keep those fluids going in - it helps keep the fluids going out!
Best wishes for a smooth recovery

Hi Dakotapup
Welcome home! Concentrate on taking good care of yourself, eating healthy food, drinking lots of water and walking as you feel up to it and I think everything will right itself in time. You have enough to think about right now.
I hope your recovery will go well. Rest now and don't push yourself. Let us know if we can help.
's, Rita

I'm Home
Hey Dakotapup,
I was also 10 pounds up after my surgery - thought DH rigged the scale as a joke! It's just fluids and goes away gradually in a week or so.
Welcome home!
