Finally a date - next week!
I was finally given a date - Feb 5th will be the day for my hysterectomy. I wasn't given much information at all! Just don't eat or drink after 12pm, I will have a 23 hour stay and what time to be there.
When I talked to my doctor, he told me that we are keeping my ovaries and he is unsure what type of surgery I will have based on his findings the day of surgery - starting out with the least invasive but warned me it could turn into a full open stomach procedure. He also said my hospital stay could be 1 - 7 days also depending on the outcome.
Some of my questions and worries are:
My heart health during surgery.
That I am cramping and bleeding with horrible back pain right now - will that effect surgery? Extra bleeding?
Will I continue to have cramping after surgery since my ovaries will be left in?
I need to spend some serious time on this site, LOL!

Re: Finally a date - next week!
Hi - not sure what is bringing you to having this surgery, but i was a ball of pain before mine from a degenerated fibroid. While in pain from the procedure (helped by demerol, dilaudid, and zofran in the hospital), i felt so much better when i got home and didn't have to take anything more than Tylenol 650mg. i had minimal spotting when i got home. no ovary pain as that was not the nature of my problem. I suggest getting a small bottle of Biotine (mouth rinse) for right after surgery. really helps the mouth when you still can't drink anything. I also felt better having ice packs on my belly afterwards to take the inflammation down. Also, be sure to talk about all of your heart health concerns with you doctor so they can address any needs you have. Take care!

It sounds like the surgeon cannot predict too much for you until he gets in there, so I hope that the least invasive surgery will do the trick.
I am guessing that the cramping, bleeding and back ache you have now is why you are having the surgery, so keep optimistic that it will all go away as your recovery progresses.

Re: Finally a date - next week!
Hi! I m having this surgery for simple hyperplasia - I cannot stop bleeding for the past 2 and 1/2 years. I had a D&C, ablation, 8 months of megatrol and these things only helped short term and everything came back. My grandmother had the same problems and ended up with uterine cancer and went through a lot.

Re: Finally a date - next week!
Since your Dr. Doesn't know what you have outside of your uterus he can't be sure of the the type of surgery needed to do your hysterectomy. Be happy that you only have a couple of days wait left! Try not to worry. They will keep you hooked up to a lot of monitors to watch everything, including your heart. I hope you are able to have the minimally invasive procedure and stop at that. I especially hope nothing cancerous is found. You will feel better very soon.
My Dr. started with a diagnostic laparoscopy looking for possible endo and said if she could she'd take care of he problem then but if it was necessary to do a different surgery she'd stop at the laparoscopy. So needless to say NOTHING besides diagnose was done. I woke up from the surgery still in pain plus some mild incision pain. 10 days later I got my diagnosis and by then I had already deduced the need for a hysterectomy by myself. I have until February 20 and I can't wait. I just want the pain and nausea to end.

Re: Finally a date - next week!
I too was worried about my heart health. If you have a cardiologist have him clear you for surgery. My doc assured me that I would me monitored closer than in ICU. Also I was on the last day of my period when I had surgery and my doc said she preferred it when women are bleeding because it is clearer to identify the problems.
Not sure about the cramping yet since I still have some mild cramping at times from the surgery, but I did get mild tenderness in my breast at my supposed time of the month.
Good luck!!!
