I have been TESTING JUICES!!!! (for post-op)

HI Ladies!!!

This may sound neurotic - (okay i am) haha.

But one of the things i've read alot about is having a b.m. post-op and the complications it can cause. this worried me (Yes, along with EVERYthing else!).
So i have been testing juices for diuretic potential for post-op b.m. help for myself.

Read alot of ladies found cranberry juice to be THE ONE!
I tested OJ, Apple, Grape, White Grape, Grapefruit, Cranberry, and even prune (eww) & some tohers i think. Test was 1 day drank only that juice to see how b.m. was next day.

Cranberry was the most effective for me - EVERY time i tried. I did several times w/ cranberry just to make sure. am greatly relieved - as now i feel have a "tool" to help the whole b.m. thing along. not worried about it at all - cuz it WORKS - alot! (think will keep this as good weight loss tool too forever)!

Cranberry is a bit tart - especially the 100% juice only kind (no fructose syrup) -so my fav. way (which also already mentioned here on post-op) is alot of ice, tall glass, 1/2 cranberry and half Sprite!!!! YUM! but i use Sprite 'Zero' cuz like the more fizziness better. tastes like a non-alcoholic wine cooler! really! it is THE BOMB! even my kids are mooching it!

so just incase anyone else has read about intestinal info/ b.m. issues post-op and is a bit worried: the cranberry might be worth a try if u like it. it really worked for me andi am so relieved can check another thing off the "oh no" list!

Hey Jennifer,
Thanks for the info! What a good idea to test those juices. I was going to rely on prune, but I think I will try the cranberry/sprite combo. How much did you drinK that day? I will give it a test too!

Where do you find 100% cranberry juice? My store only has the stuff with fructose. I have been drinking that for bladder health before my surgery. What about sparkling water? I love it and it might add nicely to the tartness of the C.J.

I have been TESTING JUICES!!!! (for post-op)

HI again!

At our groc. store is the North something brand - says 100% on it - is not the OceanSpry one (additives so works less? for me) . The 100% CB juice is a bit more expensive - like 5$ as opposed to 3$ maybe. is worth the extra 2$ i think - I'm mostly buying "kid & hubby" food - i rarely buy myself special treats to eat etc. This drink is my new thing.

I drank/ drink 3 or 4 regular ice tea size glasses/ day. Not TOO much - couple times a day when home. b4 bed maybe piddling on here

I'd def. try sparkling water with it. It doesnt always mix well - the sprite or soda has tendency to fuzz to top - so i always poke a straw in it to give it a little help.

Tried this cuz reading post op suggestions/ questions Cran brry seemed most popular choice! And i really dont want bowel issues & constip. etc. adding to everything else. I just had lap. surgery and the first day i had to go to the bathroom, i broke out ina cold sweat and wanted to die???? WHAT? no one told me this!!!
so i am try. to get prepared for hyst.

(something else happened after anesteth. and surg - my bladder was really weird - like 'stunned'??? peeing was weird for 2 days.
Cranberry must help that too i hope! i didnt know to expect that)

anyway - hope helps! is much easier than eating TOO healthy etc. and prune juice doesnt taste very good to me - is thick. ( but thought i'd be drinking that 2)

I drank cranberry juice before & after my surgery because it's supposed to help prevert urinary tract infections & I have read that a lot of women get them after surgery.

just a little FYI----get yourself a back-up juice for post-op BM issues because should you end up with bladder issues (irritation, infection, injury), the last thing youre going to want to put in your bladder is cranberry juice as this is a big bladder irritant.
stay well
