Anyone try birth control pills for relief???

Hi Everyone!!
I am really hoping that some of you can shed some light on this subjsct for me.
My Dr. put me on low dose birth control pills about a year ago to try to regulate my periods. I was having heavy bleeding and it would last sometimes up to 3 months long. I tried to take them 2 different times and each time I had excruiating pain (felt like labor pains) that lasted for 2-3days and the bleeding was about the same. My Dr. told me that he didn't feel that I was having a reaction to the pills and that he suspected endo. I had a laparoscopy and D&C last year that showed many adhesions from 2 other past surgeries (c-sections) but NO signs of any endo or anything that he felt would be causing me that type of pain. My periods were still really heavy with a LOT of clotting sometimes but NO pain, just mild cramps sometimes. Then I bled heavily for 3 months straight again this past winter and my Dr. said to try the bc pills again and I had the same excruciating pain!!! He sent me for blood work and ultrasound and everything looked ok, other than iron is low(big suprise, huh?). I am thinking the pain was from a reaction to the birth control pills, but my Dr. doesn't think so. He says it is probably from the ovaries, but I don't get that because the ultrasound didn't show anything going on with the ovaries, however it did show that my uterus is slightly enlarged (I'm not sure why).
My Monster(.) is due any day now and I am sooo hoping that I won't have any pain with this one and that I am right in thinking the pain was indeed from the bc pills. However I am a little concerned because I have been having a lot of discomfort on my left side for some reason but again ultasound didn't show anything there.(not sure what the discomfort is coming from then??)
Has any of you had the same reaction to the bc pills as me or do you think I am laying the blame for something where it doesn't belong????(on the pills)

I feel very lucky that I have found this site. You all are Angels to me!!!

I Thank You from the bottom of my heart for the continued support and information that I have been shown here!!!

Big Hugs to Everyone!!!!!

Take Care, Dawn

Anyone try birth control pills for relief???

Dawn,

I did try birth control pills to stop the heavy bleeding, but did not have the symptoms you are describing. You know your body best, and if the pain is there when you are taking the pills, and not at other times, they could be the culprit. When I was on BCP, the low dose had me bleeding every two weeks, and with the next level dosage, I only had one period in a year. I did not think that was too healthy and discontinued using them.

Has your doctor mentioned the possibility of adenomyosis? I will give you a link to a site with information on this. If you feel it fits your symptoms, you could print out the page and take it to your next appointment to discuss with your doctor. The reason I suggest this, is the slight enlargement of the uterus, and the clotting during menses.

I hope this helps.
