How much is too much sitting

I am 3wks Mon post and I have done nothing but lay and sit. But now I feel sore inside. My doc said rest no lifting but Ill I do is sit. Am I doing to little. Yes I do get up and walk around the house. Maybe pick up the table or set the table but I dont want to mess anything else up. If I have sat too much do I just lay now to get the swelling down internal. I had TVH on 10/29 with a bladder sling. Feeling great other than this. Very sore today. I do think it has something with getting my hair done yesterday and it took alittle longer than I thought it would. Have I screwed something up now since Ive tried to be very careful.

Hi Janet!

Recovery can get annoying, can't it?? You may be at the '3-week wall' that many princesses hit. This is when the sutures inside your tummy begin to dissolve, leaving your insides to begin healing on their own. Most of us do hit this 'wall' and get all upset thinking we did something wrong and our recovery has gone backwards! Be patient, and continue to rest and take it easy. The 'wall' will disappear and you will really begin to feel better.

Actually, sitting is an activity. One that my DR did not recommend doing alot of. He recommended lying down (resting) as much as possible, and when I not lying down to keep sitting at a minimum. Walking is better than sitting in some cases!

I sat at the computer for about 30+ minutes at a time(? I think ?) up to week 4, and still I think I overdid it. Tummy just did not seem to take kindly to it. Seriously. The legs need to at least be propped UP when sitting. Otherwise, as you have described, the tummy begins to get puffy and feel uncomfortable.

Unfortunately for me, my body did not TELL me I was sitting for too long until it was too late - like the next day!

I agree that sitting is not the preferred activity post-op. Better to lie down with legs propped up or to walk around. I'm in my 3rd week recovery after abdominal hysterectomy (TAH-BSO), and I sometimes go outside my front door just to breathe fresh air. I walk around the house, and once in a while, my husband takes me out for short excursions. I need to remind him to drive very CAREFULLY over any rough spots or bumps, but actually, I enjoy these excursions if we keep them short. Yesterday, we went to a pizza place (about 5 minutes away by car), and shared a pizza!!! I had 3 pieces (should have been 2). We were out for about 1-1/2 hours. When I got home, I was soooooo tired, and slept in the afternoon.

Today, I slept untl 11:30 am. when my husband came home again from his 1st job, and then he slept with me for a nap. He left again for his 2nd job at 1pm, and I've spent over an hour on the computer. That's enough sitting! Now I'll shower, put on my swimsuit (bikini!!!!!!!!) and go lie on my lounge in the sunshine for a little while (I live in Florida). I could get used to this.

(i've worked non-stop since i was 14 years old - this is the first time, I've ever taken this much time off - so it's taking practice to relax). Most important of all, is praying and maintaining my faith and confidence in God. When I do that, I know I am ok.
