Hello

Did they do a bloodtest for a quant. A quant is a bloodtest to see if you are pregnant and the furhur along in your pregnancy you are, the quant rises. The numbers are zero when your not pregnant, and eventually go up by the hundreds. By the time you are 8 or nine months along your quant is in the millions. Basically what I'm trying to say, if you are not pregnant you will not have a quant. with my first child, I bled for 5 months. Three times a week for the first 5 months, the doctor ordered a quant, to see if the pregnancy was progressing, watching for the numbers to double, triple, ect. Good luck, and god bless, carol

Went in today for sugery. They said "pregnant"

Good news. I started by period. I talked to the Doctor, I still go for the blood test (beta HCG) tomorrow, and maybe next week, but it doesn't look like I am pregnant. I know that you can have your period and still be pregnant, but I don't think this will be the case. My surgery is now scheduled for next Friday. The doctor doesn't know why the count is elevated, but I am sure that he will let me know more info next week. Like I said before, my tubal was in 1999. I feel much better now that I started. This is probably the first time in my life I am happy that I did. For years I wanted to be pregnant and wasnt. This wouldn't have been the end of the world for me, but I just was stunned. The not knowing was the hardest. So here I go again. Bowel prep and everything! THis time I won't care about drinking the (cocktail) lol. Thanks to everyone for your support. My DH sure didn't give me any. He kept saying "I'm sure your not" , but when the doctor tells you that you are, it makes you wonder. Again thank you all for your words of encouragement. I am so happy that you were here for me.

Positive Pregnancy test

Hi Christina,

I'm happy to read that you are feeling less anxious about the unexpected preg test results, what a stunner that must have been!

You asked about cysts that can cause positive preg. tests and I know that it is possible. My sister thought she was pregnant in 1979, had all he signs and a positive preg. test. She was feeling pretty rotten, though, and the doctor was watching her closely. It turned out that she had a very large cyst on her ovary which she had to have emergency surgery to remove. She since has had three children, all healthy and fully grown now! I don't think ultrasound equipment was as common in 1979, or it seems the doctor would have done one to rule out problems with her "pregnancy". Do you know that you have cysts?

Do you know if they did a urine pregnancy test or a blood test pre-op? The blood test for beta HCG should be more sensitive and as Baily mentioned, they can do a quantitative beta HCG to see just what level is in your blood. That will give the doc more specific results to diagnose with.

Best of luck on your next trip to the castle and for a smooth recovery. Keep us posted!

Thanks MaggieMay, they did a blood test. The hospital I was in was a Catholic Hospital. They will not allow that type of surgery unless your count is below 5. I am scheduled at another hospital. I know that I am not pregnant now. As long as the count does not go up I can have the surgery.
