Doctor Cancelled Surgery Day Before!

Moved this post from Intro to see if anyone has a comment....

Original Post last weekend in which I asked about keeping my cervix (scheduled for LAVH 1/21/05), responses convinced me that to keep mine was the right decision so I........

Called the Dr.'s office Monday to let them know I wanted to keep my cervix. They asked me to come in on Thursday to re-do my paperwork. Did all my pre-op testing yesterday at the hospital and today I went in to the Dr.s.

Dr. walked into the exam room, stated that he did not leave cervix's and since that was my decision that I needed to find another doctor. That was it. No discussion, no questions, nothing, just a belligerent, arrogant, egocentric display of cro-magnum narrow-mindedness.

Now...how do I really feel? LOL

Well......I think that he was not the doctor that was intended to take care of my medical problems and there is a good reason this happened.

Just thought I'd let you know that from what I have now learned there are very few doctors that will leave your cervix and that to do so is a pretty progressive/unpopular idea.

For now I still think it's the right decision for me.

BTW -- did anyone else note the story on the cervical cancer vaccine currently in clinical studies to be released in 1-2 years? I guess it shows great promise.

For a change some good news for women .....

Doctor Cancelled Surgery Day Before!

You do understand that unless a DR is a pelvic reconstruction specialist, when a hyst is performed vaginally the cervix is removed because it is essentially destroyed during the process?

There are only two types of hyst that leave the cervix: Subtotal (or supracervical) abdominal hyst and LSH - laparoscopic supracervical hyst. The LSH is a relatively new procedure and not all DR's have the training necessary and not all hospitals have the equipment for it.

So if he doesn't have the training to perform a LSH your only alternative would have been SAH.

I'm sorry you have to start the process over, but this time you are better prepared with questions and have more understanding of what your options are.

Best wishes.

I did notice that he has certificates and credentials on his wall for pelvic reconstruction - early 1990's. He also told me he assisted with the first laprascopic hyst. My guess is that he is more than qualified to do what you suggested if I understood you correctly.

He referred me to a female Dr. who will do a hyst saving the cervix ..I have an appt with her 2/2/05. Coincidentaly she was also referred to me by a friend so I'm viewing that as a good sign.

We'll see. I'm not one to take pleasure in bucking the system or making waves, obviously - this change of plans is not fun.

Thank you all for being here for us "newbies'......truly is appreciated.
