What a weekend. Was scheduled for TLH on Aug 10. Received call from doc's office at 3:30 in the afternoon the day before telling me that my insurance company wouldn't sign off on the procedure. At first we were all up in arms thinking that some corporate turkey thought they knew better than my doc what was good for me - a woman she's never met. Turns out we had to take back all the negative thoughts we sent her way. Apparently there was a lab report that never made it to my doctor's desk. It made it to the insurance company, and my mid-wife (whom I still see for well-woman care and PAPS) but not my OBGYN / surgeon. It indicated that the dysplasia was "severe" and not "moderate" like last time. So the insurance company wanted my doc to do another colposcopy and LEEP procedure prior to the hysterectomy to be sure that the cancer was not more pervasive than they first believed. My doc was proceding as if it were "moderate" again, like last fall when I had my first LEEP. She was very sorry for the mix up and agreed w/ the insurance doc re: protocol. So here I sit, day three after another colposcopy and LEEP (blechk) waiting to hear from the lab - HOPEFULLY TOMORROW - regarding the suspected extent of the bad cell growth which will dictate whether I will go forward with the TLH as planned (now set for Aug. 29th provided the lab news is good) or a more comprehensive, abdominal hysterectomy that would take a lot of tissue surrounding the uterus, maybe the ovaries and also require chemo and radiation. Jeez. Talk about sitting on pins and needles. At this point I am unabashedly asking for prayers and good wishes from anyone willing to think them in my direction! Best to all, and thanks for letting me vent.

Prayers and positive thoughts heading your way that your lab report come back "good". It is nice to hear that your insurance company was paying attention and cared enough to insist that you have more tests to insure that you have the surgery that you really need.
