My Scheduled Hysterectomy

I am new to this site and not exactly sure where to start out at. Please let me introduce my self. I am a single parent, and a BirthMother. My kids are 20 yr. old and 17. I am living in central MN (Minnesota). I have had 2 leep proceedures (1st one was done in 1996 or 1997, second (2nd) was done in December 2007). I went in for a follow up pap. Too make a long story short, I had a byopsy done on 6/11/08, results came back stating that I am in the very early stages of cervical cancer. I told my Dr. that I want to have a hysterectomy done, ASAP. She didn't see that it was important to have it done, beings that it was in the early stages. She contacted a couple of colleges(spelling) and 1 said not to do the sugery and the other said to go for it. She called me back and asked again, if this is what I really wanted and if I was sure that I didn't want any more kids. I explained myself once again, that I didn't want any more kids and that I don't want to have to start over again, with raising another baby. So my surgery is set for July 29th, 2008 at 7:30 in the morning. My Dr. also told me that she would be doing the hysterectomy vaginally, but I would be off from work for 6 weeks. I have been told, that I would be off for only a week. I am calling my Dr. back again tommorow to find out why she told me that she was doing it vaginally and that I would be off for 6 weeks. I do realize that I will experience pain and be really sore. I understand what is going to happen. But, what I don't understand is that why am I being told 2 different things. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

My Scheduled Hysterectomy

I had a friend who had her hysterectomy done vaginally and she was off for 6weeks. I think you should check with your doctor.

Good Luck

I think 6 wks is "standard" for recovery if having a hysterectomy either vaginally or abdominally. Either way you will need much more time than one week to recover. Also I had a friend who had a vaginal hysterectomy and she needed "several" weeks to be able to go back to work.

6-8 weeks is standard for either a abdominal or vaginal hyst.
