bowel prep w/ dvH?

I am having a dvH in a week () and I wasn't told anything about bowel prep. I didn't even know anything about it until I found this site. Is this for more traditional hysters or should I be asking my ob/gyn about this?

Re: bowel prep w/ dvH?

I would ask to be on the safe side. My doc said she needs for my bowels to be empty so it would be easier to compress during surgery. God bless you, and I will be praying for your speedy recovery lovemyfamily! *Hugs*

Re: bowel prep w/ dvH?

My doctor isn't requiring one because I've been on a mostly liquid diet, but I am doing one anyway to be on the safe side. There is always a chance an intestine could be nicked, and if so, the contents could cause a very serious infection.

Asking your doctor is the best thing to do. I didn't have to do a bowel prep and was instructed not to. It's very important that you do exactly what your doctor instructs you to do. It you're told to do a bowel prep, do it. If not, don't. You run the risk of having your surgery cancelled if you don't do exactly as instructed by your doctor.

Re: bowel prep w/ dvH?

I am having dVh on Monday { Jan 10 }. Was told to do bowl-prep on Sunday early evening, just in case it gets nicked during surgery so you won"t get an infection

Re: bowel prep w/ dvH?

Going in on the Monday too for dVh. Bowel prep Sunday. My surgeon is a Gyn Onc because of my family history of ovarian cancer. I think it is standard if they are going in there looking for cancer to have the bowels empty in case any kind of intestinal surgery is necessary.
