bowel prep? confused
Hi ,I'm wondering if I should wait until late tonight to do the enema or if I should just go ahead and get it over with early.I can't eat or drink after midnight (that is about five hours off)? Sorry I don't mean to be stupid .I just have never had to use one before surgery . Any help would be very welcome!
Thanks,
Jenny768

bowel prep? confused
Hey Jenny
When I had to do my first enema (and what a lovely experience that was ) I was instructed to do it at 8pm the evening before surgery.
Honestly, I freaked out about it all day, and it's not that bad. Just a tip here....the most comfy position to do it in (if there IS a comfy way to do an enema ) is to lie on the bathroom floor with a towel under you. Put your feet up on the tub (kinda the position you'd be on in the gyn's office with your feet in stirrups).
Try to hold the liquid in for as long as you possibly can. I think they say about 5 minutes. Another tip the nurse gave me was to run the bottle under warm (not HOT) water for a minute, just so the liquid wasn't too chilly.
Good luck hun!
Tam

bowel prep? confused
I just got done with mine....oh my goodness. Not fun. I haven't used a laxative or an enema in years. Let's hope I don't have to do that again, soon.
You o.k., Jenny?

Gotta Love it or not!
Hello,
I too have to do the bowel prep, but up here in Canada we don't have to do an anema. We can take things like castor oil, citro mag or phospho soda. I've done the phospho soda thing before for a colonoscopy, which was not fun! I did the castor oil thing when I was way over due with my daughter, again not fun but it worked! It may not be a great thing but to some doctors they want you squeeky clean before surgery like my specialist. According to nurse friends its not always required and it depends on your doc so I guess we have to follow doc's orders.
Good luck on and take care!

um, yeah I'm Canadian and I had to do an enema.
It is dependent on the doctor's wishes, and what you are having done.
