Started period and hysterectomy is in a couple days (2/5)

I started my period Monday and I'm scheduled for surgery Friday. I called my doctors office and it's okay to still have surgery. Has anyone else gone through this? I wanted to know what to expect.

Re: Stared period

I was on mine when I got my hysterectomy well I was almost done with it by then. I however continued to bleed 7 or 8 days after just spotting but I wanted to be done with the bleeding it was to long.

I started 3 weeks before surgery. Mother nature gave me one for the road.

Re: Started period and hysterectomy is in a couple days

I had been bleeding for about 3 months straight before my hysterectomy. What to expect? Nothing. They will still do surgery if you are bleeding, as many of us are when we go in. After the surgery you will be sitting on a large pad that protects the bed and most likely you won't be bleeding much at all. That blood will be from the surgery.

I had to wear a pad for about five days after surgery and then that was it. Gave all my "Ladies Days" supplies away after that.

As a funny aside......I still get panicky when I leave the house and realize I haven't put a tampon in. That's how bad the bleeding was running my life before surgery.

Good luck to you!!

Thank you for the information. I was a little worried because I bleed really heavy. I wear two bladder pads sometimes four. I definitely understand your funny side comment... Lol. I do the same thing now, I can't wait to not have to do it anymore.
