toxic shock

I had toxic shock from super tampons 25 years ago. I stopped using all tampons at that time because they said it was a high risk once you've had it. That the bacteria is present and waiting for another chance to grow. What about all the packing they use after surgery? Isn't that similar to a tampon? Has anyone had any experience with this? I already had my pre-op and didn't think about it until now.

Hi (((hopeful heart))) You might call your DR's office and ask whether or not they plan to use packing. Most of us did not have it, and you may not, either.

I haven't heard of an instance of anyone here having toxic shock from the packing, though. Still, since you are concerned about it, it's best to ask your DR for the peace of mind it will give you.

Good luck with your surgery!

toxic shock

Hi ((( hopeful heart ))),

((( Linda ))) and I had similar surgery, but in my case, the doctor did use packing - I'm not sure what determines whether they do or do not use it.

I agree with ((( Linda ))) - please call your doctor's office this morning and ask about it. My DD also had toxic shock, and so I know first hand how dangerous it can be. I'm glad you thought about it.

toxic shock

Linda,

I too am a survivor of Toxic Shock and I also am Post Op from TAH/BSO by 3 months. My doc knew about my TSS and did not use packing of any kind. In fact she would not have used it had I not had TSS as a teenager.

It is vitally important that you in the least remind your doc about the TSS, especially if you are not real familar with your surgeon. I was told that any kind of recurrence would be fatal for me as it was nearly fatal the first time. I am really not trying to scare you, honest. I just would hate for you to go through anything like that again.
