Questions, questions, questions...

I am having cystocele/rectocele repair & uterus & cervix removed Wednesday. I didn't receive any pre-op instructions. I would have thought I'd get the usual don't eat or drink past midnight (8 hrs prior). I also thought I'd get prepped by having to do an enema and/or douche but didn't. Is that something they do at the hospital before surgery?

you should really call your dr and ask. i cant imagine not receiving pre-op instructions from nail polish rules to bowel prep, meds that are okay to take the morning of surgery, etc.

Gotta agree with calling your doc. I had the recto/cystocele repair along with the hyster complete with removal of cervix, ovaries and tubes. I was told to do a betadine douche and a fleets enema the evening before my surgery (ohhh, that was fun since I have never done either before..but made it through them both). Since my surgery was at 1:00 the next day, I was told to eat whatever I wanted the day before and then I could only drink clear liquids up until 10 am the day of my surgery.
Each doctor is different.....The douche and enema are sold over the counter...but I would most deff. call your doc. Here's wishing you luck and sending lots of prayers on your upcoming surgery.

I agree. Give your doctor a call. Better safe than sorry. Some women are actually given an enema at the hospital before surgery instead of doing a bowel prep at home. Just remember to do what your doctor instructs you to do. Call your doctor and let us know what you find out! Best wishes for a smooth surgery and recovery!
