2 weeks post hysterectomy trying too hard.

Hey ladies I'm 2.5 weeks post op and I think I may be over doing it. I went for my 2 week post op appt and she told me I should be couch ridden still but I've been up moving around alot. My belly button and incisions are still pretty sore and just today I got really tired and winded out of nowhere walking around the store. How do I know if I'm over doing it? I feel like I'm being so lazy.

2 weeks post hysterectomy trying too hard.

Me too!!!! I am in the same boat. Feel good. Kinda sore so I got up and took my kids to the mall and BAM I could barely walk to my car. My daughter ended up driving us home (she is 20). I thought what the hell did I do. All I did was walk around. No heavy lifting nothing you would think was horrible but within and couple hours (I sat while they shopped) my kids looked at me and said mom we are going home! You look horrible and I relized that I feel horrible.... Gonna rest even if I don't feel like it because I know now my body is too weak.... Good luck Hun. Learn from my mistake

Re: 2 weeks post hysterectomy trying too hard.

At 2.5 weeks your dr told you not to walk around, but rather to stay on the couch? I found walking to be great for helping the healing process and helping me get my strength back. If you rest when you get tired, and try to increase a little each day it will get easier. I would for sure check back with the dr to find out exactly what he/she meant by "couch ridden". For me, my dr told me that I should be up walking from the day of surgery and that I should be able to walk a mile by one week. Because of her advice, I never really had issues with being so exhausted after the first few days. The key is to build yourself back up slowly, you can't expect to be full of energy if you weren't at all active for a couple of weeks.

When I was diagnosed with cancer and told I needed a hysterectomy, I asked my gyn how long the recovery was. She said, six weeks. I replied in horror, "I can't stay in bed for six weeks!"

She kindly explained that I wasn't supposed to stay in bed. The first two weeks I should take lots of short walks. The second two weeks I could take longer walks. (I walk 45 minutes to get to her office.) The final two weeks - all the walking I feel like, but no lifting or abdominal exercise yet.

The nurses at the hospital had me up and walking the first morning after surgery. Then they had me sit upright in an armchair for awhile. We did it all again that afternoon. By the second day, I was walking laps around the ward and spending the rest of the day in my armchair. The bed was for sleeping, only.

I started walking outdoors on my first full day home, four days after surgery.

How do you know when you've walked too far? You should be able to go for a walk, come home, have a rest and then feel refreshed. If you rest and still feel as if you've been hit by a truck, you walked too far.

I made a practice of turning for home as soon as I *started* to feel tired. I also chose routes that had benches and retaing walls along the way so that I could stop and sit if I needed to.

Stick to flat ground at first. Don't add hills until you're really confident on flat ground.

Sitting upright (vs. reclining) is also good exercise for your abs.

I found that I needed to avoid: lifting/pushing/pulling more than 10 lbs. For example, if you go to the store and the cart *plus* the stuff in the cart weighs more than 10 lbs, that's too much.

I also needed to avoid: bending and twisting at the waist. I *could* stoop, bending my knees while keeping my torso upright, using walls and furniture for support.

These restrictions put a lot of housework off-limits. For me, this was a plus! *grin* I prepared simple foods for myself and my cats, washed a few dishes standing at the sink and kept the litter box scooped. I also read, sewed and worked at my desktop computer. I had plenty to do, I just wasn't doing anything that my body didn't want to do.

Re: 2 weeks post hysterectomy trying too hard.

I was walking laps around my house a lot the first two weeks ( it was 100 degrees outside so I wasn't going to walk in that ) ... And did a trip to the store ... But my incision was being a booger about closing up all the way .. I'm at week 5 and am hoping at my doc appt tomorrow she says it's good ... Because when that happened she told me to stop moving around so much and basically hang out on the couch until my incision healed up and stopped draining.

If you're having complications - for example, an incision that won't close or gets infected - then all the rules change, that's for sure!

I'm sorry this happened to you and hope you get good news at your next appointment. :-)

WEll I over did it yesterday and have been sick all day. Woke up every hour last night. Couldn't breath. I have shortness of breath. I called my sister (RN) and she thinks I might have pneumonia. If I don't get better by tomorrow I will be going to the dr. I'm freezing but burning up! My X-ray showed a mild case of pneumonia after surgery and I think it is getting worse. I will up date you all..... Lesson is listen to your doctors. I am not super woman 😷😪

Do you have any hobbies? I knit, spin, crochet and cross stitch but haven't felt like doing any of those. I'm not used to not doing something. Last night I had enough, I googled 'adult coloring pages' and found a bunch I like to print, dug out the kids old pencil crayons and colored for the first time in years. It's really not that bad
