TVH: Hysterectomy tomorrow 4/11: Iron deficiency anemia and surgery

I have iron deficiency anemia which by ruling out just about everything else, is most likely due to my frequent periods. My hemoglobin always is normal but my iron stores are low, have previously had iron infusions, etc. when I went for preop I reminded them of this. I see online that they only checked hemoglobin even though blood was drawn. Surgery is tomorrow. Anybody else with similar anemia issues and if so did it affect surgery/healing?

I am 4 weeks pre op with anemia caused by constant bleeding due to large fibroids. I was told to make sure I take my iron supplements everyday and try and eat foods that are rich in iron such as spinach,beef, chickpeas, beans, lentils and fortified cereals. I am scheduled for blood test 3 days pre op and if my iron is too low they will consider transfusion at that point before surgery.

I am anemia, had the surgery and did not need a blood transfusion.

The doctor, told me I should not bleed much during the surgery and if I do they had blood on hand.

Talk to your doctor, about your concern. He/She has you best interest when during surgery.
