It's done, but . . . .

Well, I had my surgery on April 28, and I feel great. I am amazed at how well I felt besides the postsurgical stuff. I felt like I could go out and conquer the world. I continue to feel well and struggle with taking it easy through the recovery. I still want to get up and go. However, I am not on hormones. The endometreosis was severe and also covered my colon and bowel. Due to the delicate nature of those organs, they did not do anything to the endo and are expecting the endo to die since I don't have any hormones stimulating it. They expect to put me on a low dose six week post surgery. But I still feel great. I have some hot flashes and insomnia but nothing to bad. Will it get worse as time goes by? What can I expect the next couple of weeks? And will I have problems when I begin hormone replacement therapy? I would appreciate some answers from some of you seasoned hystersisters. Thanks much!

It's done, but . . . .

Those are tough questions to answer so early. At this point your body is recovering. It will be going through all sorts of things till it settles down. My Dr expected me to wake from surgery with full blown hot flashes and all. I have none. Hopefully you will continue at a managable pace so you don't need the hormone thereapy. It's a wait and see. Some days will be better than others.

I hope all of yours are good.

It's done, but . . . .

I had a tah/bso on 2-9-05. My doctor thought it was for fibroids and was surprised how the endo was attached to everything. Luckily, it was the 600g fibroid giving me trouble and not the endo. However, she will not let me take hrt for a minimum of 6 months. I'm ok with that because I don't want to take anything anyway.

I'm managing well with the occasional warm flushes and some other minor things. My point is that I would make sure 6 weeks is long enough, because the endo can grow back if it's fueled.

Talk more about this later with your doctor. Good Luck!

It's done, but . . . .

I also had severe endo, TAH/BSO on 3/31/05. Thye removed as much endo as they could, but it can be microscopic and still grow back.

I am almost 6 weeks and I have not had any flashes yet.

I was also agree that you should try to wait at least 6 mo before contemplating hormone replacement, so that remaining endo can die off.

As long as you are feeling OK, I would say it is worth the wait. Some people never feel the need to use HRT.

If symptoms become unbearable you can always change your mind later.

Best of luck,
