When Can I Drive???

I had a TAH and I wasn't cleared to drive until my 2 week follow-up. You may want to call your doctor and ask when you are okay to drive. Just to be on the safe side. =)

When Can I Drive???

dear shortypie, I had an abdominal and my doc said two weeks (nurse said one i went with the doc!) She said the extra time was to make sure if you had to step on the brakes suddenly that you wouldnt hurt the incision or stitches. I have been going on the world's shortest drives since my two week mark -- and not a second sooner, been having a spell of bad luck and i just knew the thunderbolt would strike me if i went before two weeks!!

there are some superwomen on the site who are much stronger, braver, faster to heal than I and i am sure they would give you less circumspect timelines.... But you should just buzz your doc's office tomorrow! (you are almost to two weeks!)

When Can I Drive???

I was also TAH. Doctor didn't give clearance until he saw how well I was moving at two weeks. It hasn't been a problem. You are almost there.

When Can I Drive???

Hi Shortypie...love the name. I had a laproscopic and my discharge papers said I could drive when I was no longer taking pain meds. I drove for the first time 6 days post-op as by that time I was just using regular ibuprofin. So far I've only driven short distances, about 10-15 minutes each way.

When Can I Drive???

I had a TAH the 19th. My post-op instructions said 10 days or when I was no longer taking the narcotics. I've been off those since last Thursay, just on Motrin, and I drove on Friday. I actually felt more comfortable in the driver's seat than I have in a long time. I had to drive a little today too and I'll need to tomorrow. I don't go very far (we live in a small town), 10 mi. RT at most. This being said, asked dr. about going to 4th of July at Aunt & Uncle's house 1 1/2 hrs. away, he said no way (that was A-OK with me), that amount of time sitting, without moving, wouldn't be good. Did you receive any follow-up instructions? I had a one week post-op to get my staples out, and then I'm not seeing him again until 5 weeks before we leave on our 2 week family vacation. They told me in the hospital about driving, I would think it would be on your discharge instructions. Good Luck!

When Can I Drive???

I had LAVH/BSO and my surgeon would not release me to drive for 2 weeks. She said it was not only the pain meds but the residual effects of the anesthesia.
